OCD patients detect visual stimuli similarly to ctrls but show altered confidence. While chronic deep brain stimulation improved clinical symptoms, acute stim changes did not affect detec, confidence, or EEG, suggesting STN-DBS may be insufficient to modulate metacognitive alterations in OCD. đŸ§Ș

😮 Your patient with DBS experiences sleep disturbances. Why is that, and can DBS parameters be adjusted to improve sleep? These are among the questions we address in our recent narrative review on the effects of deep brain stimulation and invasive neuromodulation on sleep and wafefulness.

Preprint alert! đŸ§Ș We developed an sEEG approach to identify individualized brain stimulation targets for severe OCD. By leveraging the organization of the internal capsule (ALIC), we could selectively modulate connected cortical regions. VC pathways to the OFC produced improvements in symptoms.

New paper out! www.brainstimjrnl.com/article/S193... Happy to share that my first co1st paper has been accepted in Brain Stimulation ! In this case, we report the use of adaptive DBS in a patient with OCD to reduce DBS-induced insomnia while preserving therapeutic benefit.đŸ§Ș

Sleep-aware Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation to Mitigate Insomnia in OCD

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the anterior limb of the internal capsule (ALIC) has been investigated as a treatment for severe, refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) [1, 2] and major depres...
