the oscilloscope can produce mind-boggling effects 💀
… And in the end, after being forced to clarify your own thoughts by explaining things to this mediocre AI, you find the answer to your own question in a much more instructive way than if a better LLM had given you the answer outright. 😅
A data center was just shut down in Wisconsin after the town council refused to have private talks with the developer and told them everything would include public approval That’s how it’s done, folks

The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.
TIL that the AI bubble has its own Wikipedia page. Let's see where this goes. No moat, and obviously very useful but with no obvious path to strong ROI? (cf. low margin airline industry) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AI_bubble

In honor of fucking off to an island with no reception for the next week, here's an older essay on wilderness and the internet for The Disconnect, an online magazine you have to turn off your wi-fi to read. Wish this one was still around! I loved the premise.
The Disconnect: Issue One
The Disconnect is an offline-only magazine of commentary, fiction, and poetry.

Maddow asked #JamesTalarico about attacks on #trans people and those who think that to win, Dems must "moderate" on trans rights. Talarico answered, "I don't believe we win by selling people out." #Texas
Everyone not demanding impeachment, R or D, is blatantly shirking their duty.

I know this would be closing the barn door after he horse has been reelected president, but if Democrats win both chambers I'd really like to see a concurrent resolution deeming January 6 an insurrection under 14(3). 1/
Like. Of everything terrible that's ever happened to my body, I gotta hand it to menopause: It is the absolute worst. Good job, Menopause. You continue to top yourself.

remember how the press and politicians were obsessed with "racing China to 5G?" The claim was you had to give AT&T and Verizon everything they wanted on policy or we'd be stuck in the stone age. It ended with China offering better, faster, cheaper, 5G and U.S. 5G being shitty and expensive. 🗽
The US might lose the AI race to China. Should Americans care?
Everyone in Silicon Valley and the Beltway is freaked out about Chinese AI, but there’s less consensus on what to do about it.
