I think the most irritating discovery of the past year+ of activism is how often one needs to pay a private company to use a public facility. Want a permit for a public event at a public park? You need insurance. Want food in a government owned building? Have to use their vendor.

I went to a job out in the hills near Ester, and on the way back I stopped to help a guy with car trouble. He was all set up with his new tire, and tightening the lug nuts. His wheel had fallen off, somehow; but he had a spare and was cannibalizing lug nuts from the other wheels.

Seeing a lot of comments about how “we haven’t had a king since 1776.” No quite. In 1776 we *said* we didn’t have a king. Then we fought a war for 5+ years to make it a reality.
