It’s truly astonishing to see how comprehensively the US government is tearing down every part of the system that has made it up until now a world-leading power in science, research, and technological development. The entire world will suffer from this wanton destruction.

A colleague received bad news from her NIH program officer today: my colleague’s grant got a great score, but NIH still can’t pay it, and my colleague will have to closer her lab. The call ended with the program officer (not my colleague) crying. Awful on so many levels.
Octopuses and squid have elaborate brains. How did their intelligence evolve? go.nature.com/4tIg5Mw
Do octopus brains work like humans’ — or is there another way to be smart?
Just like vertebrates, cephalopods — such as octopuses and squid — have elaborate brains. Neuroscientists are flocking to them for insights into how intelligence evolved.

If you are going to watch one thing on Earth Day, this should be it. Rachel Carson has always been someone I have admired and this admiration has grown as I learned about her. A remarkable pioneering woman and a hero to the world.
She warned the world before it was ready to listen. Rachel Carson exposed the dangers of pesticides and helped launch the modern environmental movement. Scientist. Author. A mind behind the science that saved lives. Her work still shapes how we protect life. #EarthDay #SheShed
