New preprint by my former colleagues in the Pauli lab 🫶 When I first joined the lab, I naively thought Bouncer’s interacting partner was a single protein. Years later, it turns out that at least 7 components on the sperm side may mediate fertilization - meet the SPARK complex! ✨

Now out @natbiotech.nature.com ! Do lncRNAs commonly bind 1000s of genomic sites? Maybe they do, but the dozens of studies that report genomic binding maps of lncRNAs are deeply flawed, with probes binding suprious DNA sites rather than RNA-bound ones.

I could not agree more with @trayon.bsky.social: We were all supported by amazing scientists, mentors & colleagues that allowed us to achieve our dreams. I want to be such a supportive mentor myself & give back by supporting others - from my own @pauligroup.bsky.social members to other scientists!

Just published: chemotactic sperm cells become phototactic 💡- by loading photo-activatable second messengers. This allows to "reverse-engineer" chemotactic signaling dynamics and expose cells to signals they would never see in the wild. Honoured to be part of this collaboration with the Kaupp lab.
