A monument suggests Trump was an aberration, but marginalized people know he is a more openly expressed continuation of violence inflicted on them since the country’s founding. Because this violence predates Trump and will likely outlast him, it cannot be commemorated as past. It is not past tense.

For the record, I do actually think that public art commemorating the evil that happened during the Trump administration is necessary and good. That is part of how we build a national conversation and prevent this from ever happening again.

Yes, if Biden had suffered a 12-point loss in the middle of dozens of scandals and military catastrophe while falling asleep in public there would be a storm of media calling for him to quit. We know this because he had a single bad debate... and there was storm of media calling for him to quit.

For real, it'd be great to see a bunch of big name media pundits do "Should Trump resign?" columns. If the party IDs were reversed there would be calls for a D president to step down after a result like this, even without the conspiracy theorizing.

To be absolutely clear: This was another Y2K situation. Lots and lots of people worked diligently for months and years, at great cost, taking hours away from their friends & family, to make our elections a bit more free and fair. Voting was still threatened! It still took record-breaking turnout!

This is so wrong The reason “Trump didn’t steal the elections” is because we & the pro-voter coalition stopped him EIGHT times over the past 21 months Here’s how: a thread (1/x)

I don't think we talk about this enough. Allowing a private citizen unlimited access to low orbit to do with as he sees fit is insane. We *already* can't track every thing up there, and we're one bad collision away from being unable to access space for DECADES before effective cleanup.

Also, the whole DOGE thing, polluting our low-earth orbit with his starlink shit, destroying the beaches of Texas with no-telling what toxic shit from SpaceX launches, championing fascism around the globe, campaigning against trans rights, and doing Nazi salutes in front of a live audience. etc.

Collective Shout, the antiporn group behind the crackdown on Steam, says it will launch a campaign Monday targeting sex workers on TikTok, calling it an “OnlyFan pipeline” This isn’t about exploitation or porn access. They want to eliminate sex worker voices from the public square

The New York Times is currently running seven (7!) articles where they smugly celebrate the destruction of trans rights and the wholesale abandon of our community in the last year, but the idea that we could maybe possibly sometime in the future get some civil rights back is simply unacceptable.

New York Times, Michelle Cottle:
Promoting a Democratic legislative agenda must remain central as well. Mr. Jeffries is charting a sensible course so far. The party’s first 100 days agenda will focus on restoring Affordable Care Act premium subsidies and Medicaid funding cut in Mr. Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, ending the Iran war and curtailing the president’s tariffs. These are all core concerns for a majority of Americans — unlike, say, restoring transgender rights and protections, as some Democrats are raring to do.

A bunch of people have noted how much more accurate this is than US media headlines etc. it’s true! But don’t think the French press covers its OWN national politics with more clearsightedness than the US press covers ours (it does not). It’s always easier to be honest about someone else’s country

Having done the "dems need to do better communication" thing for years i will say: they tend to hear this as "marketing is a substitute for doing stuff"

I really don’t want Robert Patterson to be the next James Bond. Not because he couldn’t do it. He’s an interesting choice. I don’t want him locked up in a another franchise when he has insane off the wall indie movies to make.

“You don’t understand what a Speaker of the House does” no I think YOU don’t understand that coming out 12 hours after a historic win and trying to slow the momentum of the movement on behalf of the opposition is automatically disqualifying for any would-be leader of that movement.

If eliminating the excuse that 'we simply don't have the votes' to get them to fix *a single thing* isn't sufficient to *fix a single thing* then my last faint hope that voting is a meaningful civic duty is gone.

I was mad that my younger sister was stealing valor by having memorized the words read to her on each page of the single book she ever "read" instead of learning to read when she would pretend to read her book and get praise for it. (Hop On Pop)

please delight me with your most on-brand story from your childhood I was tired of being the kid they sent everywhere to win all the awards, so when they were doing eliminations for spelling bee again, I got “coordinate” & looked the teacher dead in the eye and spelled it with one O
