I’m not a “Europe is hopelessly poor” person nor a “GDP explains everything” person but tbh whenever I see someone complain that EVERYTHING in MODERN LIFE has gotten MONOTONICALLY WORSE there‘s a good chance they’re in the UK which has in fact been in and out of recession for 10 years
"That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole of the Torah." -Rabbi Hillel
El-Sayed: "My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters. Because if there is one question of political philosophy that ought to animate us all, it's what would we do if we treated all our kids like they were all of our kids?"
bluesky is an esoteric millennial cult centered around the messianic promise of returning to Forums
btw if you’re ticked at AIPAC for whatever reason them spending a maximum amount of money to barely lose is ideal, 10/10, just as a pure matter of don’t-know-ball and forward outcome for them as an organization. this cycle has been catastrophic for them purely in terms of inputs and outputs
Hate takes like this! Political science has its problems but it has figured out a bunch of things that predict whether a candidate does well, based on both their biography and ideology.
It's "Electability" season once again so let me just remind everybody possessing this incredible power of foresight to tell us something useful like November stock prices.
Blue Dogs do substantially better than baseline Democrats but there’s no equivalent group of GOP overperformers who can win tough races in the face of Trump’s unpopularity. www.slowboring.com/p/republican...
I'm going to bed because I just don't think we'll know tonight
First NYT estimate is AES+2, but well within the MOE right now 😵💫

It’s not clear to me that AES will win, because some counties are tabulating eday *first,* but I don’t think I’ll be able to stay up for the results lmao
Per what I was just saying about Glusenkamp-Perez: gluesenkampperez.house.gov/posts/gluese...

I have no idea if this is what's going on or not but the results tonight are all consistent with my broad belief that Democratic primary voters are scared to death of losing again and as much as they like left/progressive ideas they are fucking terrified of losing again
Regardless of how it turns out NO HE DIDN’T. It’s like saying I have more fingers on my left hand after counting 8 digits from left to right with a ring finger and a pinky still to report.
Fun fact about Michigan, a lot of small counties have names that mean nothing, the guy in charge of naming them just chose names that he thought sounded authentically Native but were gibberish.
Tis I, the holder of secrets for the as-yet uncounted vote in Michigan. Schoolcraft County in the UP? Got those. Omegaw County? They report directly to me. I know all of the results. And all of you look foolish. Each and every one of you. Scum with wrong opinions, all! You cretins should be ashamed.
I personally need to be more skeptical of internal candidate/PAC polling. When I've passed on some, I always see it with a competitor, which isn't fun. But there was some polling that made it look like Stevens was down 15+ points that really bent coverage.
Looks like a 10-15 point polling miss in Michigan regardless of who wins. And people have been writing a lot of electability takes using this data. It’s dangerous out there folks be safe
it does feel like Democratic primary voters have a reasonably good sense of preferring left/progressive candidates unless (a) they really seem like they're gonna lose the general or (b) the vibes are off not perfect obviously (I know what you're going to say) but in range
From Zachary Donnini: “This is narrowing at a rapid rate and will come down to Wayne. Stevens is vastly outperforming expectations across a lot of whiter, less urban areas. El-Sayed exceeding his targets in Kent, Washtenaw, and Oakland. Stevens exceeding elsewhere.”
ANYWAY she's down 6 and still has a shot at winning because she's doing better in rural MI than anticipated and still could mop up in Detroit
In 2022 Haley Stevens moved pretty aggressively to the right on Israel to defeat a progressive Jewish member of Congress after redistricting made her old district more Republican. Tonight, the bill came due.
Weird to see people talking about the Michigan Senate primary ending tonight. It will never end
Big "candidates matter" moment right here
The AP has called the Democratic primary in #MO01 for Rep. Wesley Bell. He's currently crushing former Rep. Cori Bush 71–26%, although only 26% of the vote is counted. A high-profile loss in an otherwise good year for progressives.
I'm the only one with the correct political views (worst news of the night is that we're nominating the co-founder of Sunrise Movement in a key House seat)
Republican power grabs in Kansas and Missouri are going down in flames with 18-25% of votes reported so far. Missouri's Amendment 4 aimed to make citizen-initiated constitutional amendments practically impossible. Kansas' Amendment 1 was designed to flip the state Supreme Court to ban abortion
It’s ultimately a drop in a bucket, but I do occasionally think about how much healthier the conversation around Israel-Palestine could have been these past few years if Andy Levin was still in office, instead of kicked out by Haley Stevens and $4.5m AIPAC dollars.
