I remember #EuRuKo being pretty affordable for people from not-so-wealthy countries. I guess 🇨🇿 #Czechia hit inflation too for #EuRuKo2026. It was nice that most #RubyConferences were affordable for everybody. It made you meet people that otherwise wouldn't have come.
I realized it has been ~1.5 years since I concluded my series of post on JSON optimization. So I got curious how much faster it became since then. 2.7.2 was the last version before I took over maintainership. 2.9.0 was the version I released at the end of the blog series.
I don't understand why "it's only downhill from here" means things are going to get worse. Imagine fighting an uphill battle only to find out that it's only downhill from here

Ruby has a new moving GC. I just merged moving Immix in the MMTk Ruby binding. This is exciting as its the first GC that dynamically detects fragmentation in the heap and performs defragmentation. Performance isn't too great yet but I'm working on it! github.com/ruby/ruby/pu...

I have released Zeitwerk 2.7.4. It improves the performance of some validation logic. This may be measurable in large apps with ignored directories and lots of autoload paths. In Gusto's main application (+20 autoloaders, ~2000 autoload paths), the patch saves 800 ms of boot time.
I think the thing that used to make GitHub so compelling is that it was a product driven by engineers for other engineers
