Total solar eclipse loading ☀️🌕🌍 On 12 August, the Moon will slip between the Earth and the Sun, turning day into night for up to a minute and a half along the path of totality. Get the gist with ESO fellow Mar Carretero Castrillo 🎬👇 🔭 #EuropeanSolarEclipse #TotalSolarEclipse 1/4

The conclusion of a century-long quest 😲 Our VLT obtained firm evidence that Betelgeuse, a red supergiant star in the Orion constellation and one of the most famous stars in the night sky, is not alone! 🔭 🧪 1/4

A collage of various astronomical images. The background image shows a wide view of a starry night sky, with blue lines connecting the stars of the Orion constellation. An inset image zooms into the star Betelgeuse, showing its orange surface. A second inset shows a bright companion next to the star. Image by ESO/M.

arXiv now hosts OVER 3 million scientific articles! 🤯 arXiv reached the 2 million article mark back in 2022 - it's only taken 4 years to add another million. Read more on the blog about this milestone and our record-bre... https://blog.arxiv.org/2026/07/09/arxiv-now-hosts-over-3-million-articles/

Heading for the Carina Nebula 🚀 The massive stars in the interior of this cosmic bubble emit intense radiation that causes the surrounding gas to glow. By contrast, other regions of the nebula contain dark pillars of dust cloaking newborn stars. https://www.eso.org/public/news/eso1828/ 🔭 🧪

#PPOD: The Bubble Nebula, also known as NGC 7635, is a massive cosmic balloon located approximately 7,100 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia. This seven-light-year-wide structure was created by the intense stellar winds of a super-hot O-type star... 🧪 🔭

Image of a nebula in the shape of a bubble of blue gas, seeming to float in a larger nebula of yellow and purple dust. Several bright stars can be seen in the image, shown in purple due to the enhancements used to show details in the gas.

The paper has been accepted for publication in MNRAS! 🔭 The revised list contains 56 OB associations within 1 kpc, double the historical census! Besides tracing star formation and structure of the local Milky Way, this catalogue will be useful for target/follow-up studies! #stellarastro #galactic

A new census of OB associations with Gaia! In this study, we took advantage of my OB stars map to find new OB associations within 1 kpc. The goal was to create a useful reference catalogue for this era, and to trace the star formation and structure of the local Milky Way. #stellarastro #galactic

Interesting study on molecular clouds! 🔭 In this paper led by Xabier Pérez-Couto, the 3D kinematics of 15 MC complexes within 2.5 kpc were studied using YSOs and OCs, showing the common origin of many nearby ones, and the crossing of the Solar System in the Orion cloud 11.5-16.5 Myr ago! #galactic

Interesting paper led by Naira Azatyan has appeared on arxiv this morning! 🔭 They identified 26 (mostly OB) runaway stars, 7 of which confirmed to originate from clusters of the Vela OB1 association, finding that its young stellar population has a runaway fraction of ~30%. #stellarastro
