Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.
At first I thought these were gimmicky chocolate eggs in the shape of spuds, but nope… Canada’s pre-foiling their potatoes for baking. 😳
I made corned beef + creamy nutmeg mash + dill & mustard white sauce + peas & spinach for dinner, and it made me feel extremely warm & fuzzy.
An incredible cover by Norwegian Jørgen Dahl Moe. Right down to the very last beautiful note. I think Bruce Springsteen would approve 100%. Hope he has heard this. I keep playing over and over. Enjoy!
They say people have stopped reading. I was at my county library system's fundraising book sale yesterday. Place was packed, people leaving with boxes and bags of books. And I suspect Libby and other free sites are also seeing heavy use. Keep reading, people. 👍 📖 #Booksky
First season of Brussels sprouts in our planter boxes. Looks more one giant sprout. Looking forward to cooking with it before the bugs chew through all of the leaves!
BREAKING: FIFA has just introduced a new World Cup medal for players from the USA mens team.
Alice Zaslavsky ("Australia's friendliest voice in food") brings guest stars to help cook, some as student, others as teacher. Results looks great, though she's not always aesthetically perfect--things get spilled. Quick chat w/ guest, but everything fits into place. In the end, they're having fun!
I’m hosting Afternoons on 774 ABC Melbourne/Statewide until Thursday. Definitely feels like slipping on a comfy pair of shoes to be behind the mic & panelling. As a category expert, I do enjoy talking widely & broadly instead… Sport! Trees! Indigenous languages! 😍 #radio #broadcast #abc
Just finished this and am strongly recommending to anyone who’s interested in the world! You don’t even have to consider yourself to be science-minded, because the ‘science’ themes here are so broad! Congratulations @zoekeansci.bsky.social & Tegan Taylor! Eagerly awaiting 2026’s release in Oct! 🙏🙏🙏
@lindamciver.adsei.org g’day Linda! Loved your shortlisted keynote essay! Looking forward to keeping abreast of your heretical endeavours. ✨
You don't have to write every day to be a writer, just make sure you feel guilty about not writing enough each day...that is all. You're welcome.
here's a tip: when someone in your building steals your packages, if all they find is big awful books about political philosophy they'll just quietly leave them by your apartment door a few days later anyway
Just got my first 'we're commissioning less at the moment because of dramatic drop-offs in readership'... unclear why, it's possible people are reading AI summaries when searching, rather than the articles they relate to. So a gentle reminder to please click on the articles, if you want more of them

🌻👩🏻🍳evening Bluetopia- thought I’d also join the burnt basque cheesecake club so today I had a go at @aliceinframes.bsky.social recipe & I’m pleased with how they turned (& husband is loving them 😂) Stay safe & warm out there tonight folks🩵😊🍽️
And the same for authors and books
When I said I hadn’t read any @lizstrout.bsky.social books yet, my writer friend Elise handed me this one and said “Start here” … And now I’m hooked! Such elegant, poignant and humane writing. Beautiful. 💖 #books #booksky #strout
Listened to this on vinyl tonight and felt my heart twist and twang in my chest ❤️🩹 #JanisIan #AtSeventeen

Two very different books, both of which I enjoyed. I know that Yesteryear has its detractors, and I don’t disagree with some of their arguments, but I still found the premise held up, and was compelled to continue (if you DNF, when did you stop?). And the Sedaris was pure observational joy!!
My celeriac column has come out, and all I can think about is the ghost of the first version and how much bouncier it was 🥺 Anyway, here’s the less bouncy but actually submitted one: www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...
Alice Zaslavsky’s tacos with roasted celeriac and pickled jalapeño sauce – recipe
Gnarly, shrivelly celeriac is an unconventional taco filler. But peeled and roasted in Alice Zaslavsky’s recipe, the root vegetable yields an almost carne asada-like flavour

I deleted a good chunk of a column on celeriac yesterday, because Word decided that I was the kind of storage stuffer who didn’t deserve the auto-save function toggled on. Now I’m finding it hard to wade back into the water to write all those good words again. Pls tell me I’m not the only schlub 😩
"You're an author? Would I know anything you've written?" "Have you heard of the book Eat Pray Love?" "Oh wow. I have, actually!" "Well, one of my books was printed in a typeface not totally dissimilar to the one in that."
My Haunted Little Free Library is stocked!! Just picked up a paperback copy of JAWS for summer horror readers

Gandalf: The blade is of Elvish-make. It will glow blue when orcs or goblins are nearby. Bilbo: I've never used a sword in my life. Gandalf: And I hope you never have to. But if you do, remember this: true courage lies in knowing not when to take a life, but when to spare one. #Tolkien #TheHobbit
