yeah but a key difference here is that free parks and free public schools build a healthier and more educated population and free parking turns a bunch of adults into entitled children who shit their pants on the internet.

Meanwhile we beg and plead for protected bike lanes, But are told we must first and foremost prioritize the single occupancy metal tanks that feed the oil companies their endless profit.
While scientists have long braced for climate change, the growing severity of its impacts is shocking them. www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...
Global warming wrecking havoc, and we're going to be arguing about a handful of parking spots for the most pampered, elitist class of oil gluttonists, aren't we? For the greater good of humanity, f them parking spaces.
"What I fear… we’re going to spend all this money for consultants to tell us what we know: you can’t do everything you want to do and keep the parking," says @chenderson.bsky.social on the Gold Line, which would run along H Street and Benning.
Matt Whitaker on "real America": You can eat fast food in your car at a gas station. Greatest country in the world, or whatever. 🫡🇺🇸⛽
UN Ambassador Matt Whitaker: "People are enjoying the United States of America because it's an awesome place. We have extraordinary things like Buc-ee's and Chick-fil-A, very convenient to eat in your car while you're having a phone call. It's an amazing country."
"why do they keep calling us fascists?" Man we are living in a scary USA. #america250 www.npr.org/2026/07/01/n...
He sent a harsh email to ICE's top official. 5 months later, federal agents tracked him down
Federal agents went to a Rochester man's home to warn him that an email he sent five months ago could be an illegal threat. He was on vacation but another agent found his hotel hundreds of miles away.

We can all quietly take 4 months off work for depression? And still get paid and keep our jobs?! Well shoot, this is news to me!
WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Tom Kean Jr. explains long absence from Congress by saying he was being treated for depression.
All of these investments are designed to reduce your traffic. Car owners should be begging for this.
When it comes to cycling, the Dutch succeed because we don't see it as a cost—we see it as an investment. One that delivers returns across healthcare, climate, public space, local economies and quality of life. If we want better cities, we need better business cases: dutchcycling.nl/knowledge/bl...
The fact that my freedom of movement, health and safety are impacted by people taking their cars for coffee is truly enough to make me riot.
The weather is great and #MBTpubroll today is starting by our Petworth friends at Snappy's Small bar out back (drinks $1 off with cash), then biking down the hill to Wet Dog Tavern. Join/leave at anytime, come one, come all, come pub roll 🚲🍹
Kind of funny that the price of oil isn't even the highest it's been in the past 4 years. Getting close though! 📈
Incredibly Based. Takes a lot of spunk to stand up to the elitist, privileged class of motorists who think literally anything is a transgression against them personally, even when it means a more efficient and prosperous city. Thank you for your service 🫡
Bus Lane... or SCANDAL? 😱
Sunday night’s crowd to say goodbye to La Tejana’s streatery. Imagine if our government prioritized community spaces over parking spots.

Brian Kilmeade this morning to oil tanker captains: "If you want to diminish the Iranian threat, if you want to make sure this ends with complete Iran capitulation, show some guts and go through that Strait."
$1 billion per day right now for our latest illegal war.
We need a ticker showing the cost to the American taxpayer every time a bomb is dropped, a jet takes flight, a warship moves etc Seems to be plenty of cash for that, not for, you know, actual living.
H Street is a car sewer, which makes it not a fun place to hang out. That should save the city a quarter million dollars.
D.C. has awarded Torti Gallas a $259,000 contract to conduct a land use and market study on H Street NE, in part because "recent spikes in vacancy" among businesses and the need for an "updated strategy to support corridor retail and future development."
Bringing back Limewire to illegally rip copies of reporting suppressed by the government is definitely some cyberpunk shit
🙄 Can Anita Bonds just leave already? Why does she feel the need to subvert the will of DC voters on her way out? Who does she think she is?
NEWS: At-Large Councilember Anita Bonds will try to delay ranked-choice voting's rollout at next Tuesday's D.C. Council session. She has an emergency bill that would push RCV to 2027, instead of it being used next year. She says there isn't enough time for outreach and education.
Interesting: Urbanist group @ggwash.org is suing @ddotdc.bsky.social over its refusal/failure to release a study the city conducted on congestion pricing possibilities in downtown D.C. The study was finished in 2020, but has never been made public – even in response to FOIA requests.
DDOT continues to publish before/after analyses of safety projects. The numbers for the 9th street NW bike lanes suggest that we should be doing these projects everywhere we can. Crashes plummeted, pedestrian and bike traffic skyrocketed, and vehicle travel times dropped.
Eerste van der Helststraat, Amsterdam in 1982 and today
Maybe pedestrianize a couple pedestrian heavy areas to drive home the point. Give the people a taste of what a better life could actually be like. But then again, that would probably require a police bill of half a milli. But then again, we have a lot of NG standing around with nothing to do.
One simple way to boost air quality is by leaving your car behind. Car-Free Day on 9/22 gives you the perfect opportunity to do just that. By swapping your car for an active commute, like walking or biking, you'll save on gas, reduce emissions, and improve your overall well-being.
So now that we are no longer able to bike continuously on 15th Street through Lafayette Square, Will ddot FINALLY prioritize building the missing chunk of bike lane on 15th?!?!?! Feels like this should have been done years ago.
