One of the myths of car ownership is that users fully pay for infrastructure costs. It’s only partially true, and in DC, it is not particularly true. Especially with the gas tax on the decline, it’s time to consider other options to sustainably fund the costs of building and maintaining our roads.

Even with this ANS, this would mean DC would need active congressional approval for things like local real property tax abatements, tax incentives for development deals, etc. This is an expansive overreach by the so-called party of small government.
Zach Israel@zachisrael.bsky.social · 2w agoAhead of tomorrow’s markup, an amendment in the nature of a substitute has been posted for H.R. 9720 - under the ANS, the bill wouldn’t apply to a D.C. law imposing or increasing a fee if: (1) the fee is under $500 and (2) the law does not impose or increase any other tax or fee.

IMHO all of 4th street NE between T street and Michigan should be converted to curbside protected bike lanes, but this is a great down payment (along with a bunch of other sensible improvements for all users in this corner of Edgewood).

CFO, @mayorbowser.dc.gov's office did not meet a planned March 22 deadline to get his office the proposed 2027 budget for a 10-day review before it's made public. (It's known as the "pencils down" date.) As such, he says the budget won't get to the D.C. Council by April 1.

Grateful for this single planter on the R street entrance to the MBT. Still dreaming of a DDOT that can take simple steps to protect residents without requiring 3 years of advocacy.
Pleasantly surprised that the court did the right thing. This was not a close call on the law, and Trump has wielded this power in exceptionally corrupt ways.
