Daisy Cooper, "We need to get Britain growing again, and the single biggest lever to grow our economy, is to get a better deal with t he European Union" "Join the EU Single Market, join the Customs Union, get a better defence pack - and that includes Freedom of Movement"

The Prime Minister’s recognition that Britain needs a much closer relationship with Europe is a step in the right direction, but one that is taking far too long. Every month of inaction means more trade barriers, lost investment and higher costs. [1/2]

Cancelling the UK-EU Summit doesn’t cancel the problem. The Government must urgently meet European counterparts to prevent Entry/Exit System delays causing chaos for British travellers this summer. Our letter 👇

It’s less than a week since my radio was telling me that Britain needed to abandon net zero and drill baby drill because the Tories won a by election in Aberdeen Now it’s so hot the kids can’t sleep

The world has changed since 2016. Labour hasn’t. Starmer, Burnham & Streeting are all trapped by the old Brexit ‘red lines’. Britain needs a bigger plan for jobs, growth & security - starting with a UK-EU Customs Union, just as the Lib Dems proposed this week. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

UK pitched single market for goods with EU in pursuit of deeper trade ties

By closing the Strait of Hormuz again, Iran is threatening to level more chaos on the world economy. This brinkmanship must end. Donald Trump needs to lift his own reckless blockade and Iran needs to stop its banditry in the Strait. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cq...

Iran closes Strait of Hormuz again over continued US blockade of its ports, state media says - follow live

There is confusion over the status of the critical shipping lane, after the US and Iran gave conflicting statements about its opening.

Threatening war crimes and mocking Islam isn't a sign of strength, it's a sign of weakness. The PM should rule out UK forces and airfields being used for any attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure. What more will it take for Starmer to call off the Royal Visit Trump craves?

Screenshot of a post by Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump):

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP”

A totally normal Easter Sunday here on planet Earth. Just the US President telegraphing to the world - in the most ‘colourful’ language - that war crimes against Iranian civilians will (re)commence on Tuesday. Remind me, what part of the Easter story is this meant to reflect?

Very welcome that the Government has recognised the UK’s unique role in maritime trade and security by, today, hosting an international summit on freedom of navigation and the Strait of Hormuz. This is exactly the kind of serious, coalition-building diplomacy we need right now.

Tories and Reform cheerleaded escalation in Iran, risking Britain being dragged into conflict. We should lead diplomacy, not lose it. @alpinkerton.bsky.social

Reform and the Conservatives are happy to cheer on Trump’s illegal Iran war that's hurting our economy, sending inflation soaring and deepening the cost of living crisis.

A Graphic with a blue background reading “TRUMP’S WAR backed by Kemi & Nigel.”

Images of Kemi Badenoch, Nigel Farage, and Donald Trump smiling holding an open folder.

The open folder held says “£15bn cost to the UK economy” with signatures labelled Kemi Badenoch, Nigel Farage and Donald Trump.

Discussing Iran and the Strait of Hormuz on BBC Daily Politics. The Tories and Reform would have propelled the UK into offensive action and embroiled us in this ill-conceived and illegal war. Now the task is clear: de-escalation - and some serious British leadership.

Whatever our political differences, depicting political opponents as pests or vermin has a long and troubling history in propaganda. That the Conservative Party now thinks this is acceptable political discourse is deeply shameful. I hope Tory MPs roundly denounce it.
