Not sure why but wrote some notes on rereading Grace Krilanovich’s The Orange Eats Creeps. “What bothered me before about the characters and their milieu has faded for me, as content tends to fade faster over time, leaving the ruins of form, which lasts, if it’s there.” alvinlu.co/city-god/on-...

On rereading The Orange Eats Creeps — Alvin Lu

Grace Krilanovich was a local phenomenon when I first read The Orange Eats Creeps, or at least that was my impression at the time.

omg this book....i'm speechless. this was *so* upsetting & beautiful only 3 reviews/ratings on storygraph, only 4 on amazon, only 7 on goodreads.....i'm *heartbroken* to learn this novel has flown so thoroughly under the radar PLEASE READ IT!! it is ~150 pages & will rip your heart from your chest

a paperback copy of 'messiahs' by Marc Anthony Richardson sitting on a black bedspread. The cover is abstract, red and white with a blackish smear in the middle

I’m looking for more lit journals based on this list bookmarked while my 3 y/o yelled out the window at bigfoot. They should be available 100% on the web, charge no sub fee, ideally pay writers but not required, and have published something you actually liked reading and would rec in person.

If you’re goin’ to San Francisco and find yourself at the nexus of Chinatown and North Beach, visit On Waverly and City Lights, 2 blocks apart through the Jack Kerouac Alley portal. They both have a great selection of books (i.e., ones I wrote). Good chance they’ll be signed too.

once again looking forward to the Greater Austin Book Festival on the 16th of this month, I'll have a table to sell some books and, additionally, I'll be taking part in the "Writing Ain't My Day Job" panel. Stop on by, why not?

Congratulations to @fictioncollective2.bsky.social contest winners Sophia Terazawa (Tetra Nova!) and Joe Fletcher, whose The Chimeras is my personal find of the year—and will be yours too—destined to be a classic of weird experimental horror and keystone for the new wave of UFO novels.

Have you heard the news about our official 2026 winners? fc2.org/terazawa-202... fc2.org/fletcher-202...

Walked into this place on a warm southern night, with some of the best writers in America, while The Replacements’ "Alex Chilton" was blasting on the courtyard speakers out back, a little magic in the air.
