The worst video I've seen this week on the cybercab, and it comes from Tesla themselves. So errm, what if they need to use mobility aids to get into the Car Elon? Who then puts the mobility aid in the boot afterwards Elon?

When I say that critics of Black Studies readily show that they don't understand it I mean things like Ben Ryan, who is not qualified to evaluate a dissertation in any topic, writing a whole *substack* (which means no editorial guardrails) purporting to analyze the quality of one
It was never going to stop with Jason Arday. Our resident Bluesky creeper Ben Ryan is now turning his attacks onto Jason Arday's students--no doubt the fact that the student is a Black woman has nothing to do with Ryan and Wright's apparent concern for "academic rigor"
to my knowledge, Gloria Steinem never went back on her opposition to sex workers' rights—such as when she urged Amnesty International to not support decriminalization, despite all the evidence that criminalization harms sex workers
Actors call on Amnesty to reject plans backing decriminalisation of sex trade
Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson and Lena Dunham among signatories of letter arguing that policy change would ‘legalise pimping’

ok I had to force down a tear with this one reskeeting with alt text
I love the dedication in My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinhem
This is a flagrant violation of Sion Jewell's dignity and the trust they put in the BBC and the reporter.
I cannot get over how terrible this BBC article is. This is how the BBC writes about trans people now. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Self publishing and hybrid publishing comrades! I'm working on a piece about market shifts around self publishing, how self pub is influencing trab pub, and so much more. I would LOVE to talk to you. sesmith at realsesmith dot com
The value of Graham Platner is that right up until all his red flags came toppling down upon him is that he is the most naked example of the amount of grace & credibility Simply Being White grants you. Compared to Abdul El-Sayed, who has to re-earn every ounce of credibility he has on a daily basis.
Later this month, we’ll mark one year since we first sat down at the bargaining table with management. We’d like to share an update on how things are going (1/4):
I'm looking to interview LGBTQ people who’ve participated in surveys administered by their state or federal government, especially Household Pulse or the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (either the youth or adult version).
Looking for stories about how Tim Curry's work affected you, to use in an upcoming video. If you have a story or memory to share, please reply below!
Hey y'all, My buddy at WIRED Middle East is looking to comission a games journalist familiar with the Middle East for a particular story and I was wondering if any of y'all would be open to covering this or know someone who would? If so, DM me and I can tell you more about this.
I'm a staff writer at @wired.com and I'm looking to speak with parents of immunocompromised kids, especially those in areas with measles outbreaks, and how you're dealing with back to school with rising cases. emily_mullin@wired.com
My investigation into this danger is ongoing. If you work at OpenAI or elsewhere in the industry and are looking to share information confidentially, please email me for Signal info and other secure ways for us to talk. I'm at: mfollman at CIR dot org
The role of ChatGPT went far beyond providing tactical tips in the final hours before the mass shooting. The shooter messaged with ChatGPT more than 6,600 times over 12 months—including dozens of conversations revealing he was desperate, focused on extremist violence, and suicidal.
thank you the new yorker and françoise for having me do this cover for the late, great dolly parton
HUGE: If the provisional data holds, CDPH says these numbers would be the lowest number of new HIV diagnoses since the agency began recording them, and the lowest number of new AIDS diagnoses since the mid-1980s.
New from CDPH: New HIV and AIDS diagnoses are on a major decline in Chicago, which comes months after the Trump Administration threatened millions in HIV-related funding for a handful of Democrat-led states. I covered the proposed cuts for the @chicagoreader.com: chicagoreader.com/news/trump-i...
ICE has fallen out of the headlines but July marked the largest number of migrant detentions ever on record. Five migrants have died in ICE custody in the last two months. It's also currently impossible to legally migrate to this country, as 100% of visa applications have been paused.
A man and woman embrace as ICE and FHP detain her during an immigration stop in Fort Myers this morning.
Dolly Parton is credited in at least 37 research papers on the COVID vaccine, including the first phase I trial results published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2020.
A very positive sign that, nearly a year after Kirk's death, many if not most of the people punished for speaking truthfully about him have won legal cases against their former employees and compensation. Again, panicked compliance with Trumpism has only *cost* institutions.
Dolly is gone, but I'll always appreciate her funding and publicly receiving the Moderna vaccine, in addition to her advocacy to wipe out childhood illiteracy.
It's gotten little attention outside of certain tech circles, but David Hansson, creator of a popular web framework, recently compared Romani people to wolves in an extended example of eliminationist rhetoric. He has since gotten $9 million to start a foundation. ($1 million came from him.)
They've rewarded DHH's call for killing Romani people with $10 million dollars. omarchy.org/news/2026/08...
BREAKING: After the Washington Post fired me last year for speaking the truth in the wake of the Charlie Kirk killing, I fought back. And I'm happy to announce: I won my case against the Washington Post. They have been ordered to reinstate me immediately. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/24/b...
Washington Post Ordered to Rehire Fired Columnist Karen Attiah
An arbitrator ordered the newspaper to reinstate Karen Attiah, who was fired after posting about “white men who espouse hatred and violence” following Charlie Kirk’s killing.

The only caveat I'd add to this good thread is that this data is collected by the Census Bureau, but is not from the decennial census (the one most people think of as "the census") or the American Community Survey (an annual survey).
2.34% of all Americans are trans, according to US government census data. This number absolutely POLEAXES me, and from what I can see in the source data, the number is completely and totally legitimate and based on a colossal datapool of almost 2.5 MILLION respondents. Let's dig in.
AI proponents frequently to favor a model where AI does what it can but humans take over where it can’t. In that mindset, why would you use Grok for researching “controversial topics” rather than take over and do it yourself.
Taylor Lorenz listed out all the generative AI apps she uses for Substack, including Elon Musk’s Grok, and is shocked her followers are mad. She wants to have it both ways: to present herself as critical and progressive while still getting to take the same immoral actions as people who don’t.
If you have questions or fears about this, we have the perfect opportunity for you: A scholar who is publishing a book on the Census and how it all works and shapes politics has agreed to an AMA with Bolts readers on the Census. Share any question here! boltsmag.org/how-the-cens...
Trump is already planning for the 20*30* Census. This time, not only does he want to stop counting noncitizens, he wants to stop counting race and ethnicity. Can't have an unconstituional racial gerrymander if you pretend not to know where Black people live. My latest in @thenation.com
Plagiarism norms emerged in a context where accusers had to be able to track down the borrowed text in the library stacks without text search. You really had to have them dead to rights and the assumption was that if they got caught, they must have gotten away with it before. Now it's trivially easy
You can’t talk about debt without talking about how we got into a bad predicament, and there’s only one correct answer: tax cuts enacted this century
NEW: Teen boys are using smart glasses — mainly Meta's AI Glasses — to film themselves harassing classmates at school, following girls around and "rizzing" them or "ragebaiting" them w/ insults. In several videos we reviewed, girls plead w/ the poster to stop filming. futurism.com/artificial-i...
