at my school we could get extra credit for buying extra reams of paper for some teachers. then a teacher started giving students extra credit for straight up cash. he got fired, as he should, but it puts into perspective how “extra credit for buying paper” is not that far from “extra credit for $$”

Ok final note: we have an unofficial post-PhD policy for guests. This can sometimes be mitigated by already having published a monograph on the person/period or having established expertise outside the academy, but something like 95% of the guests thus far have doctorates
