The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.

The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor

The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

[PLEASE SUPPORT, SHARE, AND REPOST] While working to find my own home in the world, I have unfortunately had my hours cut at work, putting me in dire straits to pay for temporary housing next month. I appreciate all the help the community can offer and look forward to being with yall virtually🤎

Yesterday the CDC finally updated its data on the outbreak of diarrhea caused by the Cyclospora parasite, which has affected thousands of people. So far, cases have been confirmed in 31 states.

Map of confirmed Cyclospora cases by state, published by the CDC on July 10. 31 states have confirmed cases.

The FY27 NYC budget funds libraries at 0.43% of the budget, which still leaves libraries $91 million short of 0.5%. This means continued vacancies, less books purchased, fewer services for patrons, and stagnant compensation for library workers. We need 0.5% allocated for libraries going forward.

Bar chart showing NYC public library funding: FY26 at 523 million, FY27 adjusted for inflation at 545 million , FY27 at 538 million, and FY27 at 629 million if 0.5% of the budget. Title: "A Broken Promise Leaves NYC Libraries Underfunded.

FY27's library budget will leave public libraries UNDERFUNDED AGAIN. It doesn't keep up with inflation AND it absolutely does not meet the 0.5% the Mayor campaigned on and promised AFTER he was elected. 11 CMs also signed on. This budget looks to come in at 0.42% which is LOWER than 0.45% LAST YEAR

Mamdani promised 0.5% of the total city expense budget would be allocated to our public libraries and he promised 1% would go to our public parks. The Adopted budget dropped today and libraries only got 0.43% ($91 million short of his promise). Parks only got 0.56% ($549.5 million short).

Hey folks. So the storms this month were more damaging than originally thought, but not enough for my insurance to kick in. I have really been going through it so I don't have the funds to stop the leak. If you have some spare coins, it would be really helpful. gofund.me/a8b19e8f7

A dark graphic titled "urgent: save 2 lives." Text: "Umm Omar's father needs life-saving surgery. Diyaa needs urgent care or else he'll lose his leg." there's a line drawing of a hand extended, holding a flower petal between the fingertips.

Diyaa has TEN HOURS LEFT to save his leg as his health deteriorates by the minute. My name twin, my friend on Mastodon (vetted by GV), and someone who deserves to live. What do we do? We try. We try. We try. Please help campaign (I’m asleep!). 300/1500

Here are highlights from what Anastazia Neely said: “Under the current proposal, for every $100 of the budget, only $0.42 will go to libraries. In Eric Adams' budget, libraries got $0.45 out of every $100. If you let him out swag you on this, we will never hear the end of it. We demand those $0.08”
