I found reel to reel tapes in my parent's things. I'd like to have them digitalized so I can hear them and share with family. However I don't want the data stolen/used for AI/used in unauthorized research. Can anyone recommend someone who can do that?

My hot take for today: Most chocolate-chip cookies have altogether too many chocolate chips. Your recipe should have more dough than Just Enough To Hold The Chips Together. Our family recipe (from my boyhood) was: Double everything on the package recipe, *except* the chocolate chips. Perfect.
Since we have an open, "jungle" primary that allows only one vote per person, I held my nose this morning and voted strategically. I urge all my fellow Alaskans to do likewise.
"A vulgar, horny and unexpectedly heartwarming fable" — holy SMOKE does this look good! And we have to wait until October? (Trailer 2:25)

Around 1989-1990, my girlfriend and I never saw each other on Saturday nights: one of us had a date with "Star Trek: The Next Generation," and the other had a date with "Twin Peaks."
As much as radicals get criticized for being "unrealistic," demanding entire demographics facing literal genocide always maintain mild rhetoric and actions is an absolutely delusional level of conformity to expect. I don't think that gets said enough.

They must be shunned and embarrassed. They must be forced to shut up and go away. Take their hate and hide because society will punish them for it. bsky.app/profile/jscr...
I firmly believe the only way to stop bigotry and fascism is to make bigots and fascists feel consequences for their reprehensible beliefs. They’re not one good class on world religions away from seeing the light.

Tim Hortons announced a collaboration with "Harry Potter" this week and that certainly is ... a choice
(1) If you must, you can film any of these noxious Christian proseletyzers you encounter. But DO NOT SHARE VIDEO: that's the attention they want. (2) Don't strain your voice, and don't invite accusations of hostility or violence. Instead, calmly use something like this. Download before you fly.
Evangelist Whitney Lynn says she preaches on planes because she loves “a captive audience.” She's not alone. It's becoming a trend. If spreading your message requires listeners who can't escape, maybe it's not as compelling as you think. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/christian-...
The unregulated free market is Mrs. Lovett realizing that humans make far more and tastier meat pies than cats, require far less sawdust, and are far easier to catch besides.
Among the worst ideas floating around is that "the free market" will naturally achieve desirable results for society. No, it won't, not even in theory, much less in practice. Markets don't optimize "good for society" unless you make them.
AAAARRRRGH! Spent most of the day tending some fancy, high-maintenance dough in preparation for a potluck tonight. After getting the oven nice and hot, and boiling water (for steam), I delicately transferred the dough from the couche to the peel, opened the oven, and — FUCK I FORGOT THE BAKING STONE
Just saw "Hadestown" — in move theaters not much longer! — and OH HOLY SHIT IS IT GOOD. If you at all like musicals or just want to admire stellar performers and production values, GO.

Sometimes the masses (and the individuals) DO need an opiate. It's not a crime; I'm not even sure it's a character flaw. But belief in some sweet hereafter, where people will finally have peace and relief, is pernicious. A harmful fiction.
Got carried away last night and spent... 4 hours? 5? in YT comments explaining structural racism, pointing out the centrality of wealth in any Black/white distinctions, and calling out overt bigotry. I will give myself a heart attack and die a latter-day John Henry of arguing with online racists.
Still, I wish the Christian musical tradition had fewer songs about Finally Being Happy After Death and more songs about Rising Up And Killing The Oppressor
I have to hand it to Christianity: it has inspired some really stirring liturgical and inspirational music.

James Earl Jones is the only one for me.
You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?
As a librarian, I don't get off on fining patrons; I've automated renewals and eliminated most fines. Still, we have to have a cutoff where you're presumed to have lost the book. And when you owe the equivalent of 7 credit-hours, we'll stop you from registering. Not sure what other leverage we have.
Today's uplifting compliment: A patron asked for directions to a room, which I gave: go back about 10 feet, through the door, and straight down the hall. Five minutes later, she returned and confessed she'd been so distracted by my voice that she hadn't absorbed the directions and had gotten lost.
True, it's not often that we have cause to talk about whore shit. But if what you mean is 'horse shit,' then you really should say that clearly. (Fight regressive assimilation!)
