So, How Does The Green Work, Anyway??? Working on the lettering (English text) for The Guy She Was Interested Wasn’t A Guy At All has been an interesting experience. I primarily work in black and white manga, or on rare occasions, full color.

the lesson of the 1980s and 1990s was that ideals and morals are ultimately second, perhaps even third, behind commodity production & entertainment access in the motivations of the majority of people on earth. consumer boycotts have little long term

ultimately, people's beliefs in liberalism and democracy and human rights are necessarily secondary to the amount of goods they can potentially have access to, and mobilizations around these orient themselves in terms of the desire to increase access to goods.

the problem isnt that AI companies are destroying books after digitizing them, it's 1. the copyright laws making them destroy the books they digitize 2. that they aren't sharing digitized copies of rare books, but hoarding information for their training data

copyright law is evil and will not protect you unless you are a large corporation. cutting the bindings of books to digitize them is normal and good on its own. let's try to think about the things we're angry about

the book fetishism has got to stop. book burning was about knowledge suppression. what AI has in common here is the attempt at a monopolized consensus of information as they have sole propriety over.
