As a World Cup host, the U.S. shouldn't be flippantly barring officials from entering the country to do their jobs. It's terribly backward. It's also counterproductive. Global sports competitions should improve international exchange and relations, not the reverse.
An Iraqi soccer player was detained for hours when he arrived here for the World Cup. A Somali referee was outright denied entry. Iran's team is not allowed to stay in the U.S. The World Cup is supposed to bring the world together. Instead, Trump is using it as an excuse to be racist and cruel.
