Hawaii hit with back to back to back storms and people are worried about the poor tourists. People really don’t see locals as real. We just magically pop up in hula skirts when you show up to create an idyllic scene for you

Weather channel news report by Jonathan Erdman that says “Hawaii travel looks better this winter despite busy hurricane season. Four tropical storms and hurricanes have affected Hawaii in six weeks. But don’t cancel your winter travel plans.”

I don't mean what I'm about to say in a sappy way, but a fairly hard-nosed one: natural ecosystems are often remarkably good at recovering from serious local natural disasters *if they are given the chance.*

We now have rigorous pooled data showing that even without active restoration efforts, cleared rainforest can rebound to 75% of their former species composition and 90% of species diversity within just thirty years. #goodnews

reading about white women being scammers in academia and the way everyone in the discussion board was like "she shouldn't have done that but I feel bad cause she did her job really well for 28 years" fuck her and fuck you too

i read theory and i critically engage with literature bc i owe it to my community (the Black Diaspora, the Caribbean, islanders) to be a better person in order to work towards our liberation. it is out of love for my peoples that i do this

it’s also disingenuous to read theory (shallowly) then lord that knowledge over other people. theory and the analysis of it should not be reduced to dunks or social/cultural capital. why would you read it only to feel superior to people who may not even have access to it?
