The National Trust is still banking with an institution that seems committed to unethical and destructive investment, and whose organisational values seem so at odds with the NT we love. We have launched a new campaign to remind them that they really should move their finances away from Barclays.
I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
A reminder, as adaptation climbs the agenda: Resilience measures should complement, not replace, rapid emissions reductions. Climate policy needs both: adapting to the impacts already here and cutting emissions fast enough to limit the impacts still to come. www.chathamhouse.org/2026/07/euro...
Europe’s summer of fires: Burnham must centre climate adaptation in policies
The UK government should treat adaptation to the effects of climate change as a core organizing principle of both economic policy at home and foreign policy.

'Embrace Mediterranean life.' He's picturing 1970s St Tropez? Mate, that ship has sailed.
For years, Telegraph columnists told us climate breakdown is a hoax. Now they say: it's real, but it's too late to do anything about it, so let the bodies pile high (again). Just one long list of excuses not to reduce fossil fuel use. Such newspapers bear as much responsibility as the oil firms.
Today is #EarthOvershootDay. In just seven months, humanity has used up all the resources our planet can regenerate this year. By wasting less food, eating more plant-based foods, switching to renewable energy and choosing lower-impact travel, we can #MoveTheDate 🌍
Following DEFRA's announcement of £5.9 million funding to restore ancient woodlands buried under monoculture plantations, let's reflect on all the work that went into our #RewildTheGhostWoods campaign... If you haven't already, sign up to our mailing list for updates: buff.ly/ILnJ9vh #Rewilding

🚨 Lloyds Bank announced today that it's made £4.3 BILLION in profit so far this year! That's a 23% increase on the same period last year. CEO Charlie Nunn has the nerve to say this is down to "strategy" instead of higher interest rates. Tell the new Chancellor to tax the banks bit.ly/TaxTheBanks
Do not adjust your screens: Daily Telegraph, purveyor of hard-core #climate denial, has temporarily noticed reality. Don’t panic: normal service on behalf of its energy industry sponsors will be resumed shortly.
This how it will go. Disaster by increments. Fires. Flash floods from unseasonable rains. Tidal surges. Areas becoming flooded more and more regularly. Seas getting higher. Not a Hollywood-style disaster, so the deniers can keep denying as everything dies. Everything now is too little too late.

It simply makes no ecological sense. If you burn on deep peat, you scorch the spaghnum mosses, reducing their ability to hold water, and desiccate the underlying peat. If you burn heather & gorse you also prevent succession of rowan & hawthorn that would reduce density of heather & gorse stands.
The authorities in Wales have been taking steps to preserve the nation's remaining peat bogs - a vital carbon store. But now, climate change, caused by the burning of fossil fuels, is turning the land itself into fuel.
The powerful always get what they want, right? Not if our governments finally start protecting people, instead of corporate bullies. A law to shield the people speaking up against injustices is ready. With your help, it can become reality - sign? - action.wemove.eu/sign/2026-04...

Snagged this from FB. This may make some people uncomfortable but I think it highlights just how far we've come from what's natural, from our relationship to the Earth that sustains us and our beautiful relatives we share it with.

“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”
