the thing you have to remind yourself of when having your dinner consisting of potato chips and boxed wine is that for most of human history this would have been the height of luxury, actually

me scrolling through my to-read list when I already have a stack of books to get through: wow, all of these look so great, I can't wait to read every single one of them me scrolling through my to-read list when I'm figuring out what to read next: ehhh

We need to make it illegal to film and post video of ordinary citizens. Where is the benefit? What rights do you have as an asshole, which trumps the right of other people to live in peace? Filming cops, fine, they are state actors. But filming private citizens: fuck you

Recently, a TikToker posted a video of a pair kissing on a bench in New York City's Central Park. "Get a room," he tells them as he approaches, clearly filming. "There's kids around." The clip has received millions of views. Commenters have identified the kissers, noting with glee that one of them appears to be married to someone else. Thousands have flooded in to offer takes. ("Nice of you to teach them a lesson!") One person posted a close-up picture of the woman's face, making fun of her appearance.
Several people have joked about the man's socks.

Last week the posy I brought home from the garden had a chrysalis attached though I didn't notice till I got home. If you, like me, haven't watched a butterfly emerge you won't be prepared for how amazing or how long emergence takes #TinyJoys a 🧵

I've been boggling over this (Americans spent more on sports betting than movies, arts, and music *combined*) since I saw it...one of those things where being confronted with the sheer scale of something you personally have no contact with shakes your sense of reality

Fortune @fortune.com · last wk.

The true volume of American sports wagering in 2025—legal sportsbooks plus prediction markets plus unreported tribal handle—could approach $300 billion. Roughly 95% of total losses are absorbed by just 5% of bettors. https://bit.ly/4wo8fsC

We only rate dogs. This is a very fast tater tot. Please stay out of the way as he clearly has places to be, and only send dogs. Thank you... 12/10 (IG: choppertp)

my beloved red pencil of choice is actually this double-ended red/gray pencil named "The Editor." it is no longer made, and now I wonder if it's better to keep using it, to embrace the ephemeral pleasures of our lives, or to set it aside never to be used again, to keep as a memento

a double-ended pencil, half red and half black (gray graphite), which is stamped with THE EDITOR in white capital letters

you ever read a book so poorly copyedited you start reading it with a red pencil in hand just to have an outlet for your irritation

7. The film centers Odysseus's guilt over his war crimes, but never shows us the POV of his victims, and instead glorifies the perpetrator for feeling bad about himself. I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).

every single political fundraising text I get just strengthens my resolve to never donate to another campaign ever again. why are they still doing this to all of us? how can this possibly be an effective strategy at this point??
