Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.
BP profits more than double to $5.7bn in three months as Iran war sends oil prices soaring - "While BP banks enormous profits, millions of households are paying the price" #energycrisis #climatecrisis www.theguardian.com/business/202...
Our prisons are overcrowded because the system is broken. The answer isn't endless emergency releases. It's investing in prevention, rehabilitation and giving people the support they need to rebuild their lives.
Absofuckinglutely! Or after closing it, another one opens!
Prosecute water company execs. #Renationalise water.
Since 2021, the 10 largest private water companies in the UK have hiked up their bills by an average of 56% while spilling sewage more than 1.8 million times 💰💩 Find out what the sewage scandal has cost you – and send Andy Burnham a message 👇 https://goodlaw.social/4rcc
As we all expected, same old same old from Andy Burnham
Stick to spending limits, PM and chancellor tell ministers in joint memo. Cue for real cuts; continuation of potholed roads, housing crisis, NHS queues, unfit schools, privatisations? Real change not possible whilst neoliberalism remains the opium of the political class.
"I wasn't in politics." Then why does the timeline tell a different story? 🤔
#Renationalise water
1988: Climate scientist James Hansen tells US Senate that climate change means more extreme, weather, eg both droughts & torrential rains Smart people: hm, better build reservoirs 1989: Margaret Thatcher privatises English & Welsh water, thus leaving the building of reservoirs to market forces

These data centres will be provided with water *before* people are. This is the world we are now living in. #Renationalise
Govt planning c. 100 new data centres by early 2030s, mostly in already water stressed areas. They have no legal obligation to disclose how much water they use. Meanwhile Govt launches £75m publicity campaign to urge us to reduce water use & privatised water companies waste 19% thro leaks. Madness
Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss
Very disappointing from the new Prime Minister, very much sounding like the previous PM. These are among the world’s most vulnerable and desparate people. They need safe routes and humanity from responsible politicians, not grandstanding. This isn’t doing politics differently.
But that would mean I already knew I was going back into politics when I accepted the £5 million, so I'd have been lying when I said I didn't need to declare it.
This ban is both ridiculous and authoritarian. #SortItBurnham
AMAZING MOMENT A woman came back still wearing a custody tshirt having been released for a terrorism arrest. While being arrested for declaring support for Palestine Action a second time, another woman came back to do the same. The opposition to this ban cannot be contained.
This week in Andy Burnham’s Britain 🇬🇧🤐 Over 150 UK citizens, mainly pensioners including the daughter of Holocaust survivors, were arrested under terrorism laws for: •Clapping •Sitting down •Reading poetry •Holding a microphone All could face up to 14 years in prison! 😤 #BurnhamsBritain 🇬🇧🤐
It's almost like we need a joined up, nationalised set of public services, all working together for the benefit of the country and the people... #Renationalise
Crumbling infrastructure & lack of water jeopardising govt plans for new homes. Privatisation of England's water prioritised shareholder returns. No new reservoirs, desalination plants, or national grid of water. Companies don't do national planning. Yet govts intoxicated with privatisation
Who audits big companies for mega fees? On paper it is the big four accounting firms - Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC. But they use offshore networks. There people without proper control do audits remotely. For bigger profits. Offshoring of audits is not disclosed. archive.ph/MBclD

Hi @andyburnham.bsky.social the daughter of a Holocaust survivor has been arrested because of a policy Starmer and Cooper rolled out which Labour Baron Hain said in the House of Lords, was shameful, and the UK's High Court initially said was 'unlawful' She says, "It's not what my parents died for"
As the UN Secretary General says, every new fossil fuel project approved today makes tomorrow’s heatwaves more dangerous & our world less secure. I hope Andy Burnham is listening. Caving in to the fossil fuel lobby as the planet burns would be unforgivable

The real question we should be asking about AI regulation is who benefits? Because right now it looks like it’s tech billionaires winning and not people & communities.
