EU climate and energy nerd. Opinions/views my own.

You've often seen charts showing how the IEA's scenarios underestimate renewable energy - but they also tend *not* to overestimate fossil fuels. Eg: gas consumption is higher than the IEA's 'current policies' scenario from 2015 (and every other scenario they published)

Updated 🇪🇺 Commission agenda is now online. 📅 2040 targets — with an interesting “s” — confirmed for 2/07. But no news on the Russian energy package expected in June.

It seems that much public debate on the Iberian blackout is still illustrated by a figure that is most probably wrong [see @lionhirth.bsky.social post: www.linkedin.com/posts/lionhi... ]. For properly monitoring energy security we need reliable data. Join us Thu: www.bruegel.org/event/europe...

Choices are needed about responsibilities at European and national levels, expanding existing institutions or creating new independent ones

8) And this one is important. For all the talk about the powerful pro-Trump media ecosystem, the share of Americans who have heard negative business news coverage of the government has exploded. Evidently even the podcast bros can’t distract Americans from the realities of the stock market.

3) That was just the US version. What’s particularly impressive is that he’s managed this on a global scale. Starting to get the feeling that “Trump” annotation is going to be the chart equivalent of a layer of volcanic ash in the fossil record.

🚨 The IMO negotiations have reached a critical moment: The EU needs to stay on course to promote a global scale-up of renewable hydrogen and derivatives (e-fuels). 💰 The policy options on the table differ considerably, by a factor of 3 to 4 1/

The 🇪🇺 continues to OVERINVEST in gas as a short-term fix to secure fuel supply after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, despite alternative solutions 🚩 131 bcm of gas supply capacity will likely be underutilised by 2030, wasting public funds and driving up consumer costs 📈💶 ember-energy.org/lat...
