'Lost somewhere between immensity and eternity.'

Science shouldn’t be a partisan issue. From cancer treatments to extreme weather alerts, science makes everyone’s life better, regardless of political affiliation. But science becomes partisan when corrupt politicians defund research, fire scientists, and censor data, harming us all.

"We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back." ~ Carl Sagan

If a foreign adversary snuck into our Federal budget and cut science research and education the way we’re cutting it ourselves — strategically undermining America’s long-term health, wealth, and security — we would likely consider it an act of war.

"The delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. CS

If you think a just-fertilized ovary is entitled to life but are indifferent to what happens to a kidnapped 4-year-old with cancer, sent to a dangerous country without meds, you don’t give a fuck about the lives of children. You are just in a cult that fetishizes being against abortions.

"We can pray over the sick or we can give them medicine. The scientific treatments are far more effective than the alternatives. The faithful would rather see their children die than give them antibiotics. Abandoning science means abandoning much more than air conditioners, radios, and fast cars."

You're an interesting species. An interesting mix. You're capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you're not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we've found that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.

Of all the thirty-five anniversaries of this iconic image, today’s is the grimmest. Those in power ransack our future and steer us toward catastrophe. “…there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.”
