I am so excited to be moving to BC!
Women’s health is getting more attention and better support in BC. At a women’s health roundtable at the BC Legislature, obstetrician-gynecologist and author Dr. Jen Gunter (@drjengunter.bsky.social) shared her perspective after recently moving back here from the US.
Cancer research lost a star this week with the passing of Dr Juliet Daniel @mcmasteruniversity.bsky.social Juliet was a proud @queensalumni.bsky.social that studied hard to treat cancers like TNBC. Send your tributes to her family and continue her legacy www.circleoflifecbc.com/obituaries/D...

Both of Marco Rubio’s parents were born in Cuba. Marco Rubio was born in Miami in 1971, before they became US citizens. He is a US citizen because he was born in the US under birthright citizenship. #Hypocrites
Congratulations to this year’s Gairdner winners. 🏅WAY TO GO KAREN MAXWELL!!🏅 @uoftmedicine.bsky.social (very sad and not ok to see but one female awardee)

The TIGIT catastrophe‼️ 30 agents 220 trials ~50,000 patients >$3B+ invested 0 approvals. This is herding in drug development. In BMJ Oncol we examine why it happens, the hidden costs, and what needs to change. It’s already happening again in ADCs... 🔗: t.co/dvbS49jGkF
The difference between a POS posing as a president, and an ACTUAL president.

Two cells isolated from a fish scale videoed through a DIC microscope. The cells are cool but now all I see are extracellular vesicles floating by in the media and stuck to the substrate....... #CellBiology
I hate 3-on-3 about as much as I hate soccer penalties to decide games.
Great effort guys. You've made Canada proud. 🇨🇦 #CanadaSky www.cbc.ca/sports/olymp...

“they should be careful not to deprioritize the kind of curiosity-driven, investigator-led research that has a strong track record in advancing humanity’s knowledge, producing the types of innovation that prosperity and well-being depend on.” 🧪 #Research www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Don’t deprioritize curiosity-driven research
Around the world, governments are demanding that research funding follow broader political priorities. They should be careful what they wish for.

GOLD FOR CANADA 🇨🇦 MEGAN OLDHAM HAS DONE IT Canada's Megan Oldham wins gold in Women's Big Air. It’s her second medal of the Games and Canada’s second gold medal of the Games.
As a stage 4 cancer patient, my hatred toward secretary brainworms knows no bounds.
Crushing the mRNA industry in the US also probably destroys a bunch of cures for various cancers just as an FYI.
CIHR funding rate: 13.6%. Early 2000s: 30%+. Canada’s new $1.7B Impact+ program recruits talent — but without increased Tri-Council base funding, we risk further strain on an already stretched system. We’re calling for $1B over 5 years. Support here: tinyurl.com/33c5av46
Congratulations to TFRI's @marathonofhope.bsky.social executive director, Dr. André Veillette, and his team at IRCM & UdeM on discovering SLAMF6, an internal brake on the immune system, and developing antibodies to neutralize it. Learn more about this breakthrough: www.tfri.ca/updates/news...

I was maybe 2.5 years into my position as an Assistant Professor when my phone rang, and it was Kirsty Duncan, the new federal science minister, calling out of the blue. I had never met her. She asked me what she could do for early career investigators. /1
Gutted to learn of the passing of Dr Kirsty Duncan. She was a tireless fighter for the people she served, not only her local community in Toronto but others, especially the science & research & athletics communities too. She championed equity, diversity, inclusion and made change happen. 🤍🙏🏻
Are you as excited as we are for the 2026 MRS Biennial Meeting? As we get closer, we’ll be highlighting speakers each week, starting today!
Pew Research Institute (2023): • Red State Texas has about 2.1 million undocumented immigrants • Red State Florida has 1.6 M undocumented immigrants • Blue State Minnesota has 130,000. And yet only Minnesota is being occupied by masked thugs over "immigration." It's *not* about immigration.
Thank you Carney and Toyota! 🍁
Toyota is shifting a massive portion of its future investment to Canada, bypassing the United States entirely. Renowned economist Jeffrey Sachs issues a dire warning about the long-term consequences of American protectionism. youtu.be/j4UiDaUt8Ho?... #cdnpoli #cdnecon #uspoli #Trump #oops
Almost every scientist I know in Canada is trying to reduce the size of their lab because of the tenuous operating funding situation, meanwhile govt throws $$$ at recruitment.
Could scholarships be the key to Canada’s brain gain? https://macleans.ca/society/canada-can-be-a-refuge-for-americas-grad-students/
All the very best for 2026. Good health, good friendships and good science.
