The record temperatures, wildfires and drought we have seen in the UK & Europe is climate change in action. There is hope. It has been a record year for renewable energy generation, all new homes will have solar panels from next year. But we must accelerate the transition to clean & green energy.

Solar energy supplied more power to Britain’s grid in July than any previous month on record. The figure of 14.4% of all power generated in July smashed the last monthly record of 12.4%, set only in May In July 2025, the (formerly) best year for solar generation, 9.6% of generation was from solar.

Excellent piece from Michael. Some of the most powerful speeches in the Commons were by medical professionals, making clear there are terminal conditions where the very best palliative care cannot prevent suffering. I'll support the bill again on the 11th Sept. www.politicshome.com/opinion/arti...

Improve palliative care or introduce assisted dying? It's a false choice – let's do both

Few issues in politics demand more humility than assisted dying.

Honoured to become Chair of the Labour Party. I joined our party as a teenager and saw first hand the difference a Labour government makes. I'll work with members to build the election-winning machine that sees off Reform for good and secures a second Labour term.

I had a call this evening and am returning to the backbenches. It was a brief stint as a PPS to DBT, but I enjoyed every moment and was made to feel valued by Peter Kyle and his team. My statement is below.

Local Govt is being simplified and streamlined. Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City rightly stay together and we'll join Stevenage and much of North Herts in one of four new unitary authorities for our county. Shared history, linked by the A1M corridor and most importantly, clarity for residents.

It's goodbye to the Conservative Party we used to know. A little video on what Kemi Badenoch now expects from aspiring Conservative MPs. Those who care about the climate or human rights need not apply.

Another extraordinary achievement by UK scientists at Oxford, who are partnering with the Serum Institute in India. The advances in vaccine technology during the Covid pandemic saved millions of lives - there is every reason to hope they will save countless more. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Important article by @andrewlewinmp.bsky.social on how Labour can expand opportunity and help young families. Great to see Andrew talk about my idea for a baby & toddler top-up to Universal Credit to tackle high rates of early years poverty. labourlist.org/2026/07/the-...

'Labour must offer the politics of opportunity and aspiration' - LabourList

Labour should redouble our efforts to put the issues affecting younger people and young adults at the centre of our politics.

🧵1/ I've spent more than a decade working on anti-bribery and corruption. I know a red flag when I see one. That's why I’ve reported Nigel Farage to Parliament’s Standards Commissioner. (H/T @rowenamason.bsky.social and @tomburgis.bsky.social).

Welcome news. I left X last year and not regretted it for a moment. Under Musk, X has become a tool for promoting his extreme world view, built on an algorithm that suppresses voices he dislikes and allows racist abuse to flow freely. Twitter was once the global town square, X is nothing like it.

There is much to commend about the Defence Investment Plan. We must meet the £5bn shortfall and as a Labour Party, be open about the trade-offs and choices to come. Our next PM will be Andy Burnham and to maximise his chances of success, he must be provided with all the information he needs.

This is a huge moment for the Clean Power Mission and for taking full advantage of the clean energy already on the system. You can read Ofgem's minded too position in more detail and the projects expected to receive support in full here: www.ofgem.gov.uk/press-releas...
