Late night trip to the emergency vets and now back home and the dog is off his face on painkillers (but he's okay)

Always enjoy treating myself so having dinner out on my own tonight, along with a good book
Nothing to see here, just a man in love with a carnyx, intending to spend the rest of the afternoon blocking other people from seeing its beauty. The one…the only…Deskford carnyx and stunning reproduction of it in its prime, scaring Romans. #FindsFriday National Museum of Scotland
It's #RomanFortThursday and as the summer ends so do most excavations. This pic is of excavating at floor inside Vindolanda in 2013, when it was scorching and baked hard. You can read more about the civilians living at Vindolanda in my new book www.amberley-books.com/discover-boo...
What a great hidden gem the Roman Circus Centre is. Great stuff @romancircusuk.bsky.social
Great to see the work of @pottedhistory.bsky.social on display at the @romancircusuk.bsky.social visitor centre. This is a replica of the gorgeous Colchester cup
Boudicca bearing more than a passing resemblance to Wonder Woman!
There are loads of Scottish Roman forts in my book The Road to Mons Graupius, from Trimontium in the Borders to Stracathro, the most northerly Roman fort in the world. You can buy it direct from the publisher at a discounted price here: tippermuirbooks.co.uk/product/the-... #RomanFortThursday
Pint and a burger at the lovely Camelford Arms in Brighton. Lovely staff and really good food and a perfect pint.
Blown away by Fishbourne Roman Palace. Knew it was impressive but hadn't quite appreciated how much survives (and how much remains buried). Well worth a visit. Thanks @romanpalace.bsky.social
Trying to write on this train but it's so bumpy and twisty I'm starting to feel 🤢 Never felt like this on a train before.
The ‘Jewel of Antiquity’ - a stone fragment from Balmuildy Roman Fort that names Urbicus as Governor of Britain, and in doing so identifies and dates the Antonine Wall. Part of the collections at the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow 📸 My own #EpigraphyTuesday #RomanScotland
Working on the new book while heading to the wonderful @romanpalace.bsky.social somewhere I've always wanted to go. Expect lots of Roman pics as I'm also looking at things in Chichester later. Very excited but need to do a bit more editing first
Delayed getting to London so didn't make it to my first Roman stop at St Albans. Instead I found a nice pub for a few hours
Heading south next week on a bit of a Roman fest - Fishbourne, Colchester, Bath, Chichester. Can't wait to see so many different Roman places.
Sat at the station and an air raid siren goes off. 😦 seven minutes later and I'm still here so can't have been an emergebcy. Forget that we're close to a military base sometimes.
Honestly, this is madness and a waste of so much talent. Imagine if companies put this much time and effort into unsuccessful tenders. If universities want to think like companies, they need to start acting like them and be far more strategic with their employees time.
Conservatively say that the average applicant spends six months of their allotted research time working on their application. Collectively, more than 2000 years of research time has gone into unsuccessful applications in this round alone.
