We also looked at some FSA primary sources and this one really grabbed students' attention. Bowditch, shows the arrangement of members of the Boston Anti-Man-Hunting League as they would surround a man-hunter, concealing him until he consented to release the person he was attempting to kidnap. The League was a secret society founded in Boston in 1854 to resist the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850. The diagram, in pencil and watercolor on brown paper, places the slave hunter in the center (SH), surrounded by the speaker of the committee (S), a member to take hold of the hunter's head (C), two members to take hold of the arms (A1 and A2) and two for the feet (F1 and F2), and twelve additional members to form an outer circle to ward off intruders while the committee conveyed the victim to safety. Bowditch's note continues, "One plagued in this way would not invite others to come & run the same risk of annoyance."

I’m gonna say this one louder for the folks in the back: The fact that Texan progressives’ progress has been limited does not mean that they don’t exist or they have given up. It is a *hard* battle here, for a lot of reasons, one of which is how little support we get from outside the state.

Tonight, Pete Buttigieg rallied for Johnny Garcia and Katy Padilla Stout in San Antonio TX 🙌⬇️ The GOP gerrymandered the Texas map to make sure they win these seats. But the Democratic candidates there are so strong, and their GOP opponents are terrible. So Dems have a real chance to win 👏👏👏

Avocado Casanova Tumbleweed left us yesterday evening after 15 years of service. He saw us move to Austin, move in together, get engaged, buy a house, get married, move to England, have a baby, Covid, move back, the loss of two other pets, the loss of my in-laws, the baby grow to almost 8.

I’m wearing an event shirt today. It’s a medium. The guy who handed it to me told me that it shrinks in the wash. He was worried that he might offend me. By giving me a *medium*. I’ve been this size for about 6mo based on the data. It’s like walking around in a different body at times.
