Daaaamn. “AI is the asbestos we're shovelling into the walls of our technological society. Our descendants will spend generations digging it out again, and the longer the bubble goes on without popping, the longer it will take to repair the damage." www.thenerve.news/p/cory-docto...
Cory Doctorow: The people who tell you ‘AI is changing everything’ are lying
It has become impossible to tell managers mesmerised by artificial intelligence that the tools are not, in fact, helpful. So employees just play along with the fiction to keep their jobs, writes our t...

ADHD music nerds! What are your available dopamine bands/genres? I find anything with a driving tempo gets my brain where it needs to be, particularly hardcore, crossover/thrash, and similar. Iron Reagan and Slayer are the goers today.

I’m glad that the @goodlawproject.org is launching a legal challenge against the EHRC’s new Code of Practice, which is dangerous, unworkable and has been opposed by a quarter of all MPs. The Code will discriminate against trans people and subject many others to gender policing based on stereotypes.
Pro-trans groups challenge EHRC guidance on single-sex spaces as rules come into force
Good Law Project’s trans rights lead, Jess O’Thomson, criticised the government’s approach, calling the code of practice “transphobic”.

This is a repeated pattern Burnham has already displayed - portraying environmental protection and economic prosperity as zero sum, sacrificing one for the other. It might be canny short term politics, but it’s a horrible message that validates the culture messaging of the climate deniers
The Burnham premiership continues its approach to the future which is "wildfires? lets have more of that please, the young can be put to work to put out the flames" www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
All the best episodes of Doctor Who were made on a shoestring. What absolute horseshit. Just give it to Mark Gatiss and let him cook.
Solving the "problems" currently plaguing Doctor Who will take time, the series' former showrunner Chris Chibnall has cautioned, explaining that the show's most pressing issue now is "primarily about money." https://bit.ly/3RUqeI6

99% of the time, when someone accuses you of selective outrage, it’s a way of politically demobilizing you and shutting you up “Why are you angry about data centers instead of fast fashion” isn’t about making you care about fast fashion. It’s about shutting you up about data centers And visa versa
The fightback within Labour has begun. A motion disapproving the Code was tabled by Labour MP Nadia Whittome. It went on to attract the signatures of 93 Labour MPs, from every wing of our party. Trans rights are not a matter of right and left within Labour: they’re a matter of right and wrong.
Stunning display of motornormativity here from the BBC. No, they are not "closing down streets" - if they were doing that they would be shut off from everyone. Rather, they are changing who is using the space. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Leeds: The city closing down streets so children can play
In Leeds, streets are being temporarily closed to traffic so kids have more space to safely play - an initiative proving beneficial to both children and adults.

I really hope there's a Wargamer somewhere in South Africa putting together a Zulu themed force. Not something I'd want to venture as a white Englishman, but I'd love to see one.

so this seems to be happening.. after a week suck in hospital watching YouTube history videos of the Zulu wars 🫣 , it had to be done, a new army. Couldn't find any suitable pith helmet heads that feels right for new Cadians , so decided to save money and keep the Cadian Heads (for the most).
I hate it when people post spoilers on release week, but when it's a film that's all but sold out in many places it's particularly galling. I don't pretend to be anything other than a miserable bastard, but even I draw the line somewhere.
Some prick just set off an absolute ton of fireworks and now I can hear at least half a dozen distressed dogs barking. Dunno what they're celebrating but I hope they get divorced/fired/the baby is a Derby fan.
I still don't understand why Tim Drake coming out as bisexual meant he had to dump Steph. In an era of really weird and out of character DC decisions, that one still lingers.
News just in: the idea of 'false economy' was invented by Terry Pratchett, or so claims Bluesky's inexplicable main character.
Yeah, for days people have been citing “boots theory” at me and I want to shout DO YOU REALIZE THIS IS A RANDOM IDEA TOSSED OUT BY A FANTASY WRITER AND MAY NOT ACCURATELY DESCRIBE REALITY
Unpopular view, but fuck holiday makers. We should be curtailing all but essential business and consumer air travel, and minimising air freight.
Heidi Alexander clearly attaches more weight to "growth" and giving "holidaymakers greater choice" than urgently addressing the climate crisis. There'll be no growth and bugger all tourism in a world facing catastrophic droughts, crop failures and wildfires. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
Good thing we're not experiencing deadly heatwaves, wildfires, and crop failures, or adding new runways to major international airports would look completely insane.
Campaigners denied appeal against Gatwick Airport expansion
"Eras" should be reserved for more important matters such as "distinctive periods in the fossil record" and "what the X-Men's deal is at a given time"
this is kind of driving me nuts because an "era" is basically a rebranded "album cycle" and, I dunno, half of all major musicians since the late 60s have reinvented their image/style to varying degrees from release to release and created "lore" for fans to decode? www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
The biggest movie opening of all times should benefit the source material, right? Right???
You've seen Spider-Man Brand New Day - now what comics should you read? -
