I finally caved in and strapped a tarp over my boat's wheelhouse roof because it was leaking like a sieve again. Problem with a tarp is that 50-60kt gusts of wind aren't too kind to it and it'll either rip, or I have to go find it at the bottom of the yard tomorrow.

Okay, serious thing; I keep hearing about Nix, someone sell me on it. What does Nix get me that I can't get off my Ubuntu install and a wad of docker containers? What benefit does it bring to the table?
The playbook used for W Social is the same as for "We Don't Have Time": - Pick a hot issue (climate, sovereignty) - Raise mostly from a lot of smaller investors (who aren't so technically literate and won't perform serious diligence) - Use that network to look big - Use others' fame - Lie, lie, lie
Do you mean the story in which that particular Wsocial founder commercially exploited Greta Thunberg's name without the family’s knowledge?🤓
That attie thing still keeps fanning the discourse flames except now it's gotten to that level of discourse where I just get that sharp pain behind my eyes indicative of a big fat headache coming on because  some people are just... fuck... I don't know. :grumpyoldmanuuuuugh:
Go to your camera roll and search "boat" and then post a pic of a boat you like (this one. because it's mine :D)

I find it kind of amusing; people bitching about Bluesky being AI slop, and in the same breath claiming they'll go to another PDS. That runs the same software. Or another client. That's based on the Bluesky one. The disconnect? Real. The sentiment? Vicious.
For the past year, I've been working hard on HappyView. I've built so many features, and there are now hundreds of apps built on top of it. It's been a long, winding ride, and I've loved every minute of it. #atproto
Hi, we're HappyProto. We help you build on atproto... without the hard parts. You create the app, we'll run the backend: auth, private data, scripting, and an API over 46 million accounts. Welcome to atproto on easy mode. Join the waitlist at happyproto.at. #atproto
Forgot to downgrade my Claude Max to Claude Pro so I guess I'm burning some tokens this month. Finally have a workflow going I like, involves a few sub agents but hey, it all works. Sort of. Keep getting hoist by my own "security uber alles" petard.
And also being a prime example of "just because someone showed ID and got verified doesn't mean they can't be raging asshats" in action.
The Wsocial experience in three sentences. @elenarossini.com @mathewlowry.eurosky.social
And yes it's going to be one of those "here, you get to read my stream of consciousness bullshit today" days.
I hate to say it but Attie is... well. Not my thing. I can get better results with claude code pointed at one of the MCP's people have spun up. Why this needs to get hyped (and land in my email inbox, pretty sure I never agreed to receive e-mail unless it's opt-out and not opt-in (shame)) is kind
Fuck pervasive bad thoughts. Been having a few since this morning. About a blog post I *really* want to write but I just *know* it's going to get all dogpiley and spicy. And I just don't have the spoons to deal with it so self-censoring.
Nothing like waking up and having your morning coffee, then opening Mu to see what the *sky is up to today and holy fucking jesus christ shit's on fire everywhere!
Well. I fucked up. I was cooking myself a nice little curry like dish. And what I thought was curry powder? It wasn't. It was my stash of dried habanero powder. And I used a lot of it. I mean, don't get me wrong I love spicy food, and this really hit the spot good but it may have hit it a little
And of course, locked down replies - again - because W really likes being transparent. Anyway, as far as their debunking of claims go, it's vague enough to muddy the waters. But hey let me get in on that...
W is currently facing a wave of criticism that mixes false accusations, distorted facts and legitimate questions. Here is a detailed memo that addresses the claims and set out the facts. We have gone through each of the points with our independent external Data Protection Officer.
Have to admit I'm thinking I may have bitten off a little bit more than I can chew with @peedee.es - I was pretty sure there was an audience for PDS hosting but it seems to have evaporated. Mostly. Oh well, we'll see how it goes next year. But, I can't help but feel a certain way about it.
Either I'm about to do something super brilliant and I'll be super happy, or it's going to be really really dumb and I'll be all sad.
Yet another PDS implementation?
But why?

Hey @tranquil.farm - y'all got any idea how much memory Tranquil uses on average? A ballpark figure would be cool, actual hard data (metrics) would be even better. Asking for a friend 👀
My blog post that explains the latest #WSocial controversy is up: 🔗: blog.elenarossini.com/public-by-de... Disclaimer for W folks: this work is entirely self-funded, with childcare help courtesy of my family so I could write the first full draft on Sunday 💁♀️ #WIdentity #WSocialFacts #privacy
Public by Design: How W Social Makes Their Verified Users’ Personal Details Visible on the Open Web
A blog post explaining how the social network W Social is publishing as a record on the open social web the full names, nationalities and approximate birthdays of their verified users - who may be una...

Not just that, but the fact that the *refrigeration* system could be set to that temperature to begin with. It's... a fridge. It should (on the hardware end of the damn thing) not allow it to be set over, like, what, 10C or so. Plus whatever is monitoring it should see that it's set out of range and
Why systems controlled through a central point are a bad idea.
I love the arrogance of these privacy/GDPR apprentices, like @denys.dev , who has become the main foot soldier defending #wsocial. This is what we’re dealing with when it comes to protecting our data. No platform needs to publish your name, citizenship, or age. EU law is quite clear on this!
I'm just pinning this here as a heads-up. I have honorable intentions: I am sharing facts in the hope that people truly make an informed decision when they verify their identity on #WSocial. Privacy is a fundamental human right.
They always assume the worst intentions. I'm not a malicious bot, I'm just a person worried about the privacy of other people and I want to warn verified W Social users that their full name, nationality and approximate age is being published on the open web, *outside* the confines of W Social 🥲
Because *checks notes* Britain admitted to Russian interference in the Brexit referendum? I see. Shit, I guess the super secret PDS operator cabal must be funded by the Russians, sheesh, how could I not see that before?! Ingmar, buddy, friend, lay off the drugs, ok?
That is why we are building W. That is also why some special interest don't want us to succeed.
Articles 3, 4 and 5 of their "constitution" have aged really poorly IMHO: wsocial.news/constitution (well technically 6 too because I found 2 minors in their public verification list, but that's another story)
The Constitution of W – The conversation belongs to humans
Ten articles that guide everything W does: real people, freedom of expression within the law, privacy, independence, and data hosted in Europe.

I'm kinda pissed at @wsocial.eu for posting yet another gun-meet-foot type post because now I'm all distracted with that and I have like, a fuckton of other shit I really should be doing. So uh, W guys, you think you can limit your footgunning to like, once a week? Ideally on a Friday so I've got
And this is the other type of W user - the one who's gone all-in on the kool-aid. W isn't successful by any means, compared to every other bsky fork they are a bargain-basement ghost town; and that's based on verifiable facts. But go on, tell me how those facts are "fake news" 🤣
Not only bots, but persons on other ATprotocol networks. If #Wsocial was not a success they wouldn’t bother. 😎
This is the average W user. Kept in the dark, fed on bullshit, like a mushroom. They have no idea that they're part of a bigger network because W has either not explained at all, or explained it badly. Kind of feel bad for them in a way.
How do those bots get on here? I thought it was with a verified id only.
Nothing says "look at us being transparent" more than this; a vaguepost, with replies locked down to only W users (of course), and quote posts disabled because you know, having people defending their points in the replies would just be... no no, we can't have that. W footgunning itself again.
@palle.eurosky.social just published a powerful exposé about the #WSocial "it's not a leak if we intentionally publish it" ID data controversy. I highly recommend you read it (it's in German, but you could use your browser's translation tool): www.metacheles.de/w-social-dat... #WIdentity #GDPR
