The greatest grift of AI is hiding the part that is "the mass theft of all creative property" in with everything else it does. I don't think it's reasonable to say "if AI, then bad!" because AI is so poorly defined in the common lexicon and I think that's very much on purpose.

One of the many reasons #gamedev is in the mess it's in, that I don't see discussed much, is how much ladder and salary chasing in 2016-2023 destroyed coherent development teams. I saw a lot of people go from solid teams to riskier ones for big pay and title bumps. Many haven't panned out.

Yes! But also, if more than X% of a team turns over in less than Y years, they should have to change the name of the company to something new. Too many people diefy what is little more than a corporate entity and a logo. Same rule should apply for bands.

If a team makes a game that gets great reviews and doesn't sell, that's a biz failing but the silver lining is you caught lighting in a bottle -- protect that team! It's worth its weight in gold. If you jettison the team but keep the biz people, I don't know what to tell you

Here's a bad thing about the state of #gamedev: the industry has been too big to support it's own weight for many years now. Some contraction was inevitable. Here's the worse news: the same people who let it get too big are the ones who decide who stays and who goes.

After reading about executive salaries firing people to cut costs, I'm curious how they spend that money in ways that affect their quality of life. Unless their only satisfaction is competition and accumulation of wealth, I envy that Italian guy drinking for breakfast more than most C suites.

The other day, I was walking down the street in Italy at 11am on a weekday. A modest but stylishly dressed Italian gentleman sat down on a bench, cracked open a beer, lit a cigarette and groaned "ehhhhhh." I think that's what I want my life to be.

One thing I don't see people talk about much around AI, is what the advertising model looks like, once they've created trust and dependency on the bullshit machine and need to make those trillions back. Remember how you used to google "McDonalds" and it would list McDonalds before Burger King?
