I'm a doctor. I also happen to have experienced mental illness. For too long, I carried this secret with shame, Silenced by stigma. Today is #CrazySocs4Docs Day. A day to remember those we have lost & start conversations about mental health in healthcare. Show me your socks!

My feet wearing odd socks. One red one with yellow spots, the other blue with white stars

We are incredibly grateful to our friends and allies. Each of these organisations has issued statements of support for the #SASsix campaign. What we have in common is a belief that supporting every doctor to reach their potential is good for services and patients, as well as these doctors.

The SAS six campaign national support, including the RCP, RCOA, RCPCH, Association of Anaesthetists, HCSA, Medical Protection, the GMC, the Intensive Care Society, the Medical Women's Federation, and now the National Association of Medical People Specialists.

We live in an era in which there is too much information but not enough knowledge, and even less wisdom…For knowledge we need books, slow journalism, podcasts, in-depth analyses& cultural events. And for wisdom, among other things, we need the art of storytelling. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/m...

Given up on reading? Elif Shafak on why we still need novels

Recent studies suggest we’ve fallen out of love with reading – but the more chaotic our times, the deeper is our need to slow down and read fiction

Great discussion of a fabulous poem @holliemcnish.bsky.social ‘Arguing in the Headmaster’s office.’ Made me think about how we can be sexist when we have conversations around how we dress. We need to change this and ensure our ‘judgement’ is equitable… Thankyou as ever @bedsidereading.bsky.social

Really pleased to see this HSSIB report published - we've come a long way in the last decade to try to emphasise how much fatigue affects healthcare delivery in the NHS, and how under-recognised this still is Hopefully this helps encourage further action (And Shaun one of the very first to help!)

My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"? Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...

Thank you for all the helpful comments and additions (offline & here). Please do let me know if there are other resources to link. I’m trying to educate myself in this too. I grew up as a teenager in the 1980s so have to do a lot of unlearning and learning. See links in thread.
