April showers bring: our fresh APRIL ISSUE. 🌼 WORDS by: @graythebruce.bsky.social, @kathystevens91.bsky.social, C. Zhang, & Quinn Franzen. ART by: Ainaz Alipour. PLUS: @iloveyoudaniel.bsky.social reviews an essay by @megpillow.bsky.social. buff.ly/cyFupU7

Lightly-wrinkled textile portrait: color-blocked fabrics pieced together with zigzag-stitch line work. A dark green figure with red nails carefully threads the thick brows of a redhead with voluminous hair. A quilt-like pattern fills the background.

"The ChatBot doesn’t have the moral fiber optic cables to make a stand, because it’s an algorithm, its workings a black box, its body a string of numbers. The ChatBot can’t even eat fiber" Such a brilliantly-crafted piece, stranding together different elements through powerful anaphora repetition.

I read the NYT piece, and I am holding onto the words of a woman who fended off inappropriate advances from a 60-year-old Cesar Chavez at the age of 19. “It makes you rethink in history all those heroes,” Esmeralda Lopez said. “The movement — that’s the hero.”
