I mistrust the worship of credentials because mine have taught me how little a title can prove once reasoning is asked to stand on its own.

One day you’re fun and young and the next, you’re spreading fake coyote urine to keep the deer away from your perennials.
Some helpful questions I use to make decisions in uncertainty are as follows: 1. Can the choice be undone at low cost? Will waiting give me more actionable information? Early moves should preserve optionality or be delayed if later choices can then be made with more information.

Ice cream shops were built for scooping. You get your scoop, you move your ass down the line, you pay. These increasingly elaborate beverages take forever to make and back up the whole line, which usually doesn’t have much of a spill-over zone. Tell Congress to keep Big Smoothie out of our parlors.

🎉 BIG NEWS! The Living Donor Protection Act was approved by the U.S. Senate HELP Committee this morning — bringing us one giant step closer to a full Senate vote. None of this happens without YOU — the advocates who never gave up, never stayed quiet, and never stopped fighting. 🙌 #MyKidneyVoice

Meetings are not just an interruption to your work. Meetings are also the work. If you only value the hours holding a scalpel, you’ll miss the hours that move patient care forward in different ways. Surgical leadership means finding balance in which kind of work is needed. #leadership #MedSky
I will never lose my sense of awe for the miracles that public health and medicine bestow.
