Back to Bluesky to share the most exciting news: my postdoctoral research is now published in Neuron! We used cricket hunting to show how ethological learning persistently rewires juvenile (but not adult!) visual circuits by co-opting homeostatic plasticity. Full story www.cell.com/neuron/fullt...

Ethological learning during the critical period resets synaptic setpoints in mouse binocular visual cortex

Bissen et al. show that prey capture learning profoundly reshapes visual cortical circuitry and function during developmental critical periods, but not in adulthood. These learning-induced structural ...

Fantastic news for IN-CODE! Prof. Marlene Bartos (Uni Freiburg) secured a €2.5M ERC Advanced Grant for "ReMember-CA3". Her team will investigate how the hippocampal CA3 circuit encodes memories without overwriting old ones, and how it retrieves them over extended periods of time. #ERC #Neuroscience

Two brain circuits. Same learning problem. Shared learning outcomes. Different dynamical implementations. Our work shows that learning is not a single canonical solution but can emerge through distinct population dynamics shaped by circuit architecture. Excited to share our latest preprint! 🧵1/12

🥳1 Year of the Schroeder Lab🥂 From empty rooms and big ideas to a growing team and lab. Building everything from the ground up @lmu.de has been challenging but incredibly rewarding! I'm proud of all we've accomplished and excited for what’s next. Hopefully 2026 is the year we start collecting data!🚀

🧠 Check out this preprint by our postdoc Selin Kenet from her previous work with Thomas Misgeld on neuromyelitis optica! They show that complement-mediated injury directly affects myelin and oligodendrocytes, suggesting that demyelination is not just downstream of astrocyte loss. 🧠
