today, the act of creating something - anything at all - could well be considered an act of rebellion in our case, it is our hiatus is over and we're back in the studio we're another cultural landslide aka anothercultland aka kirk & wendy ;-) howdy

Whistle requests: very light for a while, desultory printing, not a lot going on The last two days: 60 requests in 48 hours, tens of thousands of whistles requested Whistle goblins: have claimed 98% of the requests, and they're all moving out post haste

People in California who are facing a terrible ICE surge: remember that if you need whistles, we are still sending them out for free. In fact, we just passed 1.7 million whistles sent out. linktr.ee/3Dwhistles

Michael was the first Cat 5 hurricane to impact the Florida Panhandle, the fourth-strongest landfalling hurricane in the contiguous United States in terms of wind speed, and the most intense hurricane on record to strike the United States in the month of October. Isaias is a sign of things to come.

The largest storm surge at any NOAA tide gauge from #Isaias was at Panama City Beach: 5.6' above Mean Higher High Water (MHHW). This is their highest water level on record, beating the 3.79' set during Hurricane Michael in 2018. Records are not very long-term, though, extending back only to 2008.

just did a walk around outside - lotsa flotsam, mostly snapped small limbs but it's STILL windy now we wait 'til morning to see what happen to the west... everybody's still hyperventilating, so waiting to see what happened (still taking power hits, though) thank you for your kind wishes k&w;-) 🙏

👋 yeah, we're okay - as we thought, lost power a bunch of times, still taking power hits currently sustained winds 47 mph, gusts to 59 and all those green blocks below are flash flood warnings i have no idea how much water it dropped that was/is one seriously fucked up storm

Radar capture as of 10:08 PM CDT; basically, the entire panhandle is under flash flood warnings - those green blocks are those warnings

amid protests, the Grand Saline, TX city council voted 4–1 to evict Pip, the library cat, over scratching & biting. He'll now live with the librarian. a cat was installed in public office, performed public service, & was removed for being a cat. this is injustice. this is a crime. Justice for Pip!

Pip, a black-and-white cat wearing an orange collar, stands on a dark patterned carpet, looking upward with wide, alert eyes. His ears are perked up, his tail is raised, and he has a small black heart-shaped marking on his nose.

weirdest ass thing about this storm: by the time this comes to shore, it will be eight years _to the day_ of Hurricane Michael beating the living shit out of the Panhandle & this area still hasn't completely recovered The only good thing: even though it's a Major storm, Isaias is _not_ Michael

Alright, we're coming up on the 4:00PM NHC full update, and the tropical storm level winds are definitely here... And below, courtesy of NWS Radar is Isaias... And it looks like Isaias is trying to line up a bowling strike on the entire Western Florida Panhandle...

3:40PM capture of NWS Radar of IsaIas.

This is a nightmare scenario for the Western Panhandle.

national hurricane center is now putting out hourly updates 12Noon: Isaias is now 160 miles south of Pensacola (it's truckin' now) and will be coming to shore as a Cat 3, with 120mph sustained winds and no, they don't have edibles on sale 🤔

Well, we're still in the Hurricane Warning bucket. Yeah. 🙄 Here's the 10P CDT Cone of UhOh - NHC thinks Isaias might gently trip into being a low-Cat3 (yup, a Major) but El Nino ramps up the shear after that. Late Fri/early Sat landfall as mid-Cat1 to low-Cat2 & rapidly loses power once on land.

The 10P CDT Cone of UhOh - NHC wants to say Isaias will gently trip into being a low-Cat3 (yup, a Major) but El Nino ramps up the shear after that; late Friday/early Saturday landfall as a mid-Cat1 to a low-Cat2 and rapidly loses power once on land. It'll generate one hell of a wind-field on impact. Surge could be higher than predicted.
