In the UN gift shop each country has a small shelf where they sell items that represent them as a country. Usually some bit of art or good they’re known for. Korea had some lovely ceramics, Ethiopia has some colorful woven baskets, Bulgaria has some carved wooden boxes. This is the American shelf.

Despite being a fan of the John Wick series I think there is actually some truth to this. Specifically that anti-war films that show combat by the act of making it for entertainment make it appealing or at least interesting.

This is a long, complex essay, but it hews to a simplistic, almost naive moral: that you can’t show violence on screen without endorsing it. I would think an esteemed professor and translator as Wilson would be a bit more subtle.

Growing up one of my favorite books was From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. A book about a brother & sister who run away from home to go live in The Met in NYC. Today I went to the Met & found the bed they slept in while living in the Met.

REMINDER: A main argument against US aid to Ukraine is the US badly needed to husband missiles and air-defense for the possibility of war with China. Then the US used that and more on war with Iran. And the supposed China hawks said nothing, confirming that they were Russia sympathizers all along.

The evangelist picking how they’d be represented in art. Matthew: Just a man, so ppl know it’s me 😊 John: A cool eagle 😎 Mark: A lion but he has wings too! Luke: An ox with wings too! Matthew: 😳

Reacher: *sliding this guy face first across the counter so his head collides with the cash register and makes the change drawer pop out* He’s ready for his check

As a former dispatcher the most common incident I dispatched officers for was no injury/no property damage car accidents where they didn’t even write a report. The 2nd most common was callers who felt like a suspicious individual didn’t belong in their neighborhood (the individual was always Black)

I had my car broken into and laptop stolen in front of a police station in San Francisco and when I walked in to report the crime the officer on duty asked what I wanted him to do about it

I’m in the Alexander Hamilton Customs House in NYC. The rotunda features artwork of commerce and European explorers, including Columbus. The building currently serves as the NYC branch of the Smithsonian’s American Indian Museum.

there was a guy who did the kind of content you're gagging for: neil gaiman. he's trying to make a comeback on bluesky right now if that's what you're into. take it up with him, maybe he'll do another season of american gods directed by uwe boll, produced by harvey weinstein, starring armie hammer

Morgan breaks down the main problems with Wilson's review in this thread. I personally think Odyssey is one of Nolan's most thoughtful movies besides maybe Dunkirk. So many of his films are about themes he was obsessed with as an adolescent but to me Odyssey is a mature examination of the text.

Okay I'm actually reading Wilson's "review" and I'm sorry this is so funny... I have never read anything this pedantic in my life.

I just got my new Daggerheart book, dice, and GM screen. I think Daggerheart has made a good attempt at replacing D&D and if ppl want a slightly crunchier system than PbtA I’d recommend this one. But they also just have gorgeous art & production values.
