Despite being a fan of the John Wick series I think there is actually some truth to this. Specifically that anti-war films that show combat by the act of making it for entertainment make it appealing or at least interesting.

This is a long, complex essay, but it hews to a simplistic, almost naive moral: that you can’t show violence on screen without endorsing it. I would think an esteemed professor and translator as Wilson would be a bit more subtle.

I have seen the Odyssey and my main takeaway is that it’s time to give John Leguizamo an award for not only being great but singlehandedly improving EVERY FILM HE IS IN.

As a former dispatcher the most common incident I dispatched officers for was no injury/no property damage car accidents where they didn’t even write a report. The 2nd most common was callers who felt like a suspicious individual didn’t belong in their neighborhood (the individual was always Black)

Morgan breaks down the main problems with Wilson's review in this thread. I personally think Odyssey is one of Nolan's most thoughtful movies besides maybe Dunkirk. So many of his films are about themes he was obsessed with as an adolescent but to me Odyssey is a mature examination of the text.

Okay I'm actually reading Wilson's "review" and I'm sorry this is so funny... I have never read anything this pedantic in my life.

I just got my new Daggerheart book, dice, and GM screen. I think Daggerheart has made a good attempt at replacing D&D and if ppl want a slightly crunchier system than PbtA I’d recommend this one. But they also just have gorgeous art & production values.

Personally I don’t care for Will’s posts so I don’t follow him however there are lots of ppl on here who will believe anything bad said about him and participate in harassment campaigns. I block ppl who do that because it says a lot about them, none of it good.

Can confirm, my ROCOR parish skews heavily male & young especially among the converts. Some clergy realize this is a problem but for every clergy like that there are three or four encouraging the reactionaries.
