Thank you for being part of ASM Microbe 2026! Save the date for ASM Microbe 2027, taking place June 22–25 in Chicago. Got big ideas? Session proposals open tomorrow—help shape next year’s program and push the microbial sciences forward. #ASMicrobe asm.social/2XY.

Thank-you graphic for ASM Microbe 2026 with teal background and microscopy imagery on the left and a city skyline on the right. White text reads, “Thank You for Being Part of ASM Microbe 2026” and “Next Stop: Chicago. Save the Date for ASM Microbe 2027.” The ASM Microbe logo appears with “June 22–25, 2027 | Chicago.” The right side shows the Chicago skyline at sunset along the waterfront, with tall buildings reflected in the water beneath an orange and pink sky.

I don't generally post about my own work, but if you are looking for a last minute present for the holidays for someone who might be interested in the ocean, my book seems to appeal not only to adults but also to even really little kids. All royalties go to the Smithsonian.

Today was special. My first master’s student successfully defended his thesis! Michael Hajkowski was the first student to ask to join my lab in Jan 2023 determined, and passionate. Now, he’s off to UC Riverside for a PhD! While we’ll miss him deeply, I couldn’t be prouder. @sfstatebio.bsky.social

Awesome Women of Color in Science Panel hosted by Black Excellence in #STEM @ #SFSU for today’s seminar! Who pivoted to stem cell research after 12 years in STEM education? Who was excited about forensics after a high school experience? Who was 16 yrs old viewing hanta virus in a microbiology lab?..
