For folks asking why bother commenting because the OMB won't care: comments help build cases for the courts by explicitly laying out harms. That's why it's really important to have your comments be as specific as possible. Also, contact your senators and reps! They actually do care about this.

New: The National Science Foundation is preparing to claw back some $500 million in funds from some of its core science programs in physics, math, computer science, and engineering in order to fund a project from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

The National Academy of Sciences was established by President Lincoln to explicitly provide independent science advice to the US gov’t. Committee members that provide advice? They are unpaid volunteers donating their time in service to the government for years at a time! I know because I was one.

The White House is signaling that it's thinking about suspending or debarring the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine from federal funding. It's a response to 11 Republican lawmakers criticizing NASEM, over #ClimateChange chapter of its Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence.
