BKK🇹🇭 HK🇭🇰 LDN🇬🇧

The UK has failed HK people again and again and again. While BN(O) immigration has been granted on 'humanitarian' basis, it's on a temporary basis albeit ability to extend to ILR and citizenship. But it *is* temporary. So... were we ever part of UK territory or not?

UPDATE: Wu said he was eventually allowed to enter, with authorities granting him a seven-day immigration bail. That means he will be removed from the U.K. on Wednesday, he said, cutting short family plans to spend months together. apnews.com/article/hong...

A Hong Kong democracy activist's long-awaited London reunion may be cut short

Technically, HKers *would* call themselves anti-leftists. But only because “the left” actually maps to conservative, even reactionary politics in the city because CCP is “the left”. Tycoon-friendly policies, social conservatism, nationalism, anti-LGBTQA+ all represent “the left” …

A thing that’s often hard for anyone outside of HK (and Taiwan?) to wrap their head around is that no opposition would be caught dead calling themselves “the left”, even if the policies pursued are “leftist” in any other place. The reason should be obvious if you think about it for even 2 seconds

Also Taiwan is economically progressive and has universal healthcare! It’s not some right wing anti-lefty island lol

@mariaressa.bsky.social has been speaking about SM and democracy for some time now, probably the most preeminent voice these days, one of many indeed, one of the few with the weight of state molding her life to this day, she still has dozens of lawsuits against here from the Philippine government

European businesses are seriously spooked by China's new supply chain law EU Chamber in China statement says companies will struggle to comply with both EU rules and Chinese ones. Absolutely caught in a bind

In Starmer’s Beijing trip, Hong Kong is only mentioned by him as a financial hub and a bridge for cooperation. Not once as a city where opposition has been criminalised, protesters imprisoned or murdered, free media eliminated & civil society dismantled. Full betrayal.
