it's very obvious inheritance tax has to go up, not only to raise revenue but to actively prevent houses going onto the private rental market. "I don't want to sell the house I grew up in" is a stupid lie told by people looking for a justification to be a landlord.

So, the UK's mainstream parties spent the better part of two decades legitimising the far-right's grievances and aligning politics-as-usual with their terms and parameters, and now an increasing number of people view the far-right as the best to address said grievances. It just doesn't make sense.

The biggest difficulty for trans rights – the general public seems to believe the new guidance makes it possible to exclude eg trans women from women's services in some circumstances. No. This was the previous position. The current guidance requires their exclusion, always, regardless of context.

for as much as the open letter >200 charities have signed is excellent & needed, concerte demands must incl. repealing the horrendous nationality & borders act the tories passed in '22. labour opposed it back then. why was axing it not one of the first things they did as w the illegal migration act?

in the 1940s the engelandvaarders were a group of dutch ppl who paddled across the sea to reach the uk from occupied netherlands to seek safety & fight the nazis. one of my maternal great grandfather's was among them. most died attempting the crossing. anyway, now we're doing this sort of shit

tbh its vital that govts seriously look at nationalising food production & the techs that exist or are in development to allow it at scale. we aren't just headed for disaster, we're long since past, & continued aversion to this will only result in inc food scarcity & whats essentially mass murder
