OpenAI and Anthropic are time bombs at the heart of the AI industry, which is why hyperscalers and NVIDIA continue to prop them up. Without them, hyperscaler revenue growth stalls, and the entire con collapses. www.wheresyoured.at/the-ai-demand-bubble/
This is a scandal — an historic swindle perpetrated by the biggest companies on the planet — but because they’ve successfully hoodwinked investors, the media, and many analysts, they’re getting away with it. www.wheresyoured.at/the-ai-demand-bubble/
Analysts estimate that 70%+ of Microsoft, Google and Amazon's present and future AI revenues are from Anthropic and OpenAI's compute spend and model sales. Outside of two unsustainable AI labs, demand barely exists, and they've massively overbuilt capacity. www.wheresyoured.at/the-ai-deman...

The media's takeaway from an El-Sayed win is the same as it would have been from a Stevens win, and the same as it will be if El-Sayed wins the general, or if he loses it: everyone, no matter who they are, needs to take several steps to the right.
Is it the cutest arrowhead I’ve ever found? Yes! Is it light, lethal and still sharp af? Also yes! Such skilled technique and artistry to make this charming killer from a single flake of volcanic stone 😍 Recovered in Tl'kemtsin / Lytton, Nlaka'pamux territory.
Hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing climate fires across Europe and North America. Meanwhile the planet burners are making record profits. And they are hitting up the Canadian taxpayers for $100 billion for another pipeline. www.theguardian.com/business/ng-...

The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.
Had to listen to this set after seeing Feist play a few nights ago. I’m not a super fan or anything, but her voice… really stunning. youtu.be/kIBTww3U30M?...

Just learned of this artist George Boorujy. If you've ever been to La Brea Tar Pits, his beautiful illustrations of animals from the pits are on the outdoor signage. A bizarre misstep that his name is never mentioned on the signs. It took detective @kjkillackey.bsky.social to find him.
“He stands there, bobbing and bobbing as though the water’s applauding him.” Norman MacCaig, from his poem ' 'Dipper' Painting by American artist, George Boorujy #birds #art #poetry

Disgraceful and a clear attack on academic freedom by Canadian universities.

Gathering bits of Ezra's story bit by bit. His flickr account is gone, his food videos seem to be gone, so much digital history shared at the dawn of direct digital content (2006-2013) is gone. Why is worth a thought piece (maybe). Here's an NPR article that's still up: www.npr.org/sections/pic...

Any of you on Flickr back in '05+ remember Ezra Caldwell aka Fast Boy [cycles]? Early cycling blog scene folks remember him? His flight w/ass cancer that he lost too soon? Glen wrote this song for Ezra. Fully and extra crushed right now. Grateful for people like these 2 youtu.be/s_le35eei-g?...

Given that we are all upset today about Anthropic-shredding-books, I’ll add that I address this here, and it’s part of the same infrastructure threatening the preservation and profession of history but people don’t want to talk about that if the same industry is paying for their research.
“AI has become a blunt instrument in the enterprise to impose precisely this form of sanctioned ignorance about America’s past...Taken together, [Trump’s & Musk’s] plans amount to a one-two punch, history in the hands of the corporate state.” My latest on AI & history: www.salon.com/2026/07/28/t...

Nobody wants predictive data models to stop working for the people in medicine. Or translating ancient Pompeii texts. Or the other ways we were already using it. We want it to stop replacing workers, killing the environment, and stealing from artists. Hope that clarifies.
Cool. Now do federal Ai centers (similar public opposition)
