From Publishers Weekly: “Andrew Karre at Dutton has acquired…The Pink Book, a collection of intertwined weird stories that resist the patriarchy and each in some way involve a pink book, edited by @as-king.bsky.social editor of the Printz-winning anthology THE COLLECTORS.” #BookSky
One of the silliest things about writing for young people is the shade authors get for it—as if it’s easier. This shows me that A. You don’t understand that this is where the big work is being done to help children build empathy and critical thinking, and B. You haven’t read the right books.
Presently at a small airport. Young man is loudly making TikTok videos that offer travel tips in his selfie-aimed phone. None of the travel tips include not disrupting the peace at a small airport. Some of them are also inaccurate. Real talk: this is the dude that will use your armrest.
Did you ever have a book that was interrupted by life and then you carried the book everywhere because you wish you were reading it instead of doing anything else? Yeah. This book is so gripping, y’all.
Another YA not just written for kids bc of a lot going on with the parents. Bit of magical realism (manifestations of the main character at different ages show up and interact) makes all of this work. @as-king.bsky.social def delivers. 🔥 www.goodreads.com/book/show/28...

I don’t how I am so late / on time / at the best time to discover this novel by A.S. King But as she writes, “To understand anything is to understand energy.” It’s prose. It’s poetry. It’s surreal in the best and most authentic sense. #kidlit @as-king.bsky.social
When my neighbors fight and the yelling comes through the walls, and it feels like the walls are bulging from the bad energy and it takes you back to when that was normal. And the dogs bark. And the dogs bark.
Finished reading the book "Attack of the black squares" from @as-king.bsky.social . It's really good, and gave me food for thought. The book is especially relevant in the time we live in now.
Clearly we were both haunted by that guy. 🙂 And thank you. 🕺
If you've never read a book by @as-king.bsky.social, I absolutely cannot say enough good things about her writing. Her understanding of the human psyche is profound. And since I haven't said this layely? KIDS' BOOKS ARE NOT JUST FOR KIDS. As a GenXer, I'm haunted by that 1 grandfather in Dig.😳

Hi again! It's me with an another installment of the last book I ever thought would get banned--my picture book about a unicorn and kitty who are pals. A quick look at what this school district bizarrely found objectionable. 1/
You'll never guess what book got the Carroll ISD school library advisory committee to say "genitals" a dozen times in 20 minutes. @txfreedomread.bsky.social will have more on this story soon, but for now, you have to hear this audio. open.substack.com/pub/franklin...
ICE agents in Queens, New York break down a bedroom door and point guns at a mother & her four US citizen children They dragged the mother out by her hair while yelling at the kids to “put your hands up, stupid!” This is tyranny These kids are traumatized It was warrantless and no ID was shown.
@gregandree71.bsky.social — I saw this post today and laughed so hard at the “might be Satan” part.
Got Pick The Lock not knowing anything except it’s @as-king.bsky.social and l love her books. Halfway point. Wow. 16yo in 2025 trapped in a mansion, homeschooled by a controlling father, as she pieces together the mystery of a punk superstar mom’s reality. Also, an immortal rat that might be Satan.
Well, my health insurance just more than quadrupled. It’s more than my mortgage now. For one person. Must be nice to have taxpayers pay your top-notch health insurance for life while actively making decisions that hurt them. Y’all have no bottom.
It’s kinda fitting to wake up the morning after Halloween to find my health insurance premium doubled.
In my house growing up, my mom listened to a lot of Brasil 66 and Sergio Mendez, as a kid I liked Mozart, and as a teen I fell for Cuban music. A few years ago I fell for German rap. Etc. Music is universal. This Bad Bunny media obsession is just weird.

Just saying—if publishers all got together and gave authors a list of the email and address they would like used on the Anthropic claim form, that would come in really handy. Pretty sure I’m not the first person saying this.
To the really nice young woman at the Ren Faire tonight with the obnoxious drunk guy in sunglasses: having to shush your boo during a public show is a red flag. And you are worth more. So much more. ❤️
