Filmmaker William Greaves collected the surviving members of the Harlem Renaissance in 1972 for one hell of a party held at Duke Ellington’s house. The footage sat for 50 years…until Greaves died and his son David decided to turn it into a film. I have a feeling this is going to be amazing...

Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

i believe that the the entire "binge watch" model of releasing television series is based on a faulty premise, and that faulty premise has significantly devaluated television as an art form. stick with me on this one...

this is a great illustration of one of the fundamental insights of democracy — that there is no such thing as "the people" and that majorities are elusive and ever shifting. no election, no decision, is final and treating an election as a final decision is profoundly undemocratic.
