The president is a rapist and a pedophile who ran teen beauty pageants and was best friends with Epstein and he’s fine with men beating their wives and he lost a war and raised all your prices and stole billions of dollars but 34% of Americans still think he’s peachy keen because they’re racist.

and here’s the thing - am i anti- technology? no. some of my LEAST favorite filmmakers fall into “we must do everything practical” category (i wish i could condense that into some sort of tenet or something). i don’t care how you got the shot. i care about whether you engaged me as a human being.

so i’m doing this podcast - @mpotpod.bsky.social - and here is the biggest lesson i have learned from systematically rewatching a bunch of 80s summer movies…

A 58-year-old letter carrier collapsed & died on his mail route in triple-digit heat. He's the third DFW letter carrier to die since 2023. Yet House Republicans JUST advanced a bill to block the federal heat rule. Working shouldn't be a death sentence.

Despite high-profile deaths, ‘nothing has changed’ for USPS carriers working in heat

Less than half of Dallas-area postal workers have access to air conditioned vehicles, the USPS said in a statement.

Dr. Fauci is a hero. He really is. He helped guide America thru a mass death event. Millions more could have died but they did not, thanks to him. Everyone over 70 owes him a debt. It is disgusting that we live in a country that not only dishonors him but actively smears his good name.

if i asked for validation in my relationships in the constant and relentless manner that most businesses do nowadays i would be labeled a narcissistic codependent with whom no one should associate. if you liked this post, please complete the following survey.

schadenfreude is no substitute for a functioning democracy that respects everyone equally, but if all we get before we are burning books and pencils for kindling while avoiding immortan joe’s rape gangs is to watch maga and its catamites eat one another whole, at least there will be entertainment.

i've been making this argument since at least 2018. temporal distance creates psychological presence, IE delayed gratification makes the payoff more enjoyable and memorable. and yet netflix has remained stubbornly committed to a model that only emerged as a way of breaking the home video market

i believe that the the entire "binge watch" model of releasing television series is based on a faulty premise, and that faulty premise has significantly devaluated television as an art form. stick with me on this one...

But I also think binge drops (versus the months-long consistency of a network TV sked, where fall-spring your show pops up once a week) end up hampering the work of building an emotional investment from an audience where you WANT to see the next season (which comes only 3 months later anyway!)

Streamers aren't tied to the deadlines of a primetime network schedule. Maybe that's not a good thing.

TV writer-producer Javier Grillo-Marxuach says one of the main problems resulting from streaming is a lack of economic and logistical pressure to make shows on a regular schedule.
