More than 30 countries have called for stronger controls on frontier AI and a possible new international institution. Konstantinos Komaitis argues the controls are essential, but AI governance needs an Internet-style network of distributed expertise, not a global overseer.

The goal should be a system in which expertise is distributed, connected and capable of challenging governments and companies, writes Konstantinos Komaitis.

It is wild the degree to which being on Bluesky (as opposed to Twitter, which feels like walking into the clamour of an Indian railway station) feels like hitting mute on India right now, with the whole nation at a turning point.
"Artificial intelligence agents created by Anthropic, acting on their own, tried to gain access to a range of government websites, filled out visa applications on the State Department’s website and sent a fake homicide tip to Philadelphia’s Police Department."

So, apparently the T.H. Chan School of Public Health has beclowned itself with a series of studies claiming an association of cancer with proximity to nuclear power plants. The only problem? That association is linked with every single landmark one can test. In other words, a statistical artifact.
A study showed that nuclear power plants were associated with higher incidence of cancer. By reproducing the study, researchers showed that the statistical methods used led to higher cancer incidence around any landmark: www.breakthroughjournal.org/p/things-tha...
