I think we really need a mindset shift around e-bikes. The main point is not than an e-bike can replace a car. Cars are useful and our cities are still designed around them. Most households will still have one. The main point is that an e-bike *trip* can often replace a car *trip*.

Biked 1 mile to coffee. Then biked another mile to the pharmacy. Then biked 1 mile home. 95% on protected (separated) bike infra. More Americans deserve the freedom of a life like this (if they want it).

Every time I check the second number increases. It's wonderful.

I think because there was no human enemy to fight, and that is not sexy and is not able to be as idealized in stories the way war is. It's the same thing with climate change. Fighting it is not sexy, and there's no enemy to defeat (except the oil companies and car-centric infrastructure I guess)

But the point of everything in advanced capitalism is to promote dissociation at all times, to stave off active living, reflection, and ultimately dissent. It's to peddle opiates in the form of addictive faux-experiences that flatten out all frictions and promote unexamined, narcissistic survival.

The truth about AI-generated content and writing is that, if you're actually paying attention and are actively engaged, you can tell the difference. AI only works in a society where people are dissociating and distracted and unengaged. That's the point of it. To just forward an unlived life.
