Eldredgeops rana trilobites, with soft tissues (legs, gills, antennae) reconstructed from fossil evidence, in bronze. Sculpted from scratch, no scans. Trilobites have been extinct for a quarter-billion years, but I hope if you squint your eyes, you can almost believe... #SciArt

The other is upside down over my index finger, breach position, apparently trying to right itself. Both have compound eyes made of an array of individual lenses, much like many modern arthropods.A bronze Eldredgeops rana trilobite, enrolled into a tight ball, held between my thumb and index finger against a white background, seen from the side. The lenses of the compound eye are clearly visible. Enrollment/conglobation has evolved independently many times among arthropods, and was a common adaptation seen in a diverse array of trilobite genera.
